2025-2026 offseason thread

I still think AA grabs Kim and a Bassitt type pitcher to round out the major signings.. then one trade for a reliever with a few years of control left that was on no ones radar.. and then a few filler BP and bench signings closer to spring.

Iglesias for 16 million is retarded. The only good thing I can take from this is they must have way more than what we think to spend. As I said before I think they can spend a lot in terms of this year but dont want the risk of a big contract. Maybe if a good deal pops up like Buxton who is making about half his market value they do it. I think Acuna impending FA even as far as it is away is holding the team back from making large committments.
It’s so retarded that every other contender was offering him the same deal.

Iglesias had a rough start to last year.

But the last 4 months of the year he had FIPs of 1.74, 2.75, 1.14, and 2.57

Considering he turned down similar offers from the teams just in the WS I think the Braves did fine there.

I fine with Iggy if the pen is used correctly and he is just not given the out dated 'closer' role.. I hope the new pitching coach is an advocate of BP by leverage and not BP by role.

Ok, well I will hope for the best. I just see closer shitting the bed as the most likely demise of the 2026 Braves. I would rather keep Johnson and let Holmes or Lopez close.

This is why I think Suarez, Fairbanks or someone like them needs to be the move. One of those guys plus Iggy at the back end with Dylan Lee as an option is really strong. Bring in another reliable arm and we're cooking. Hell, I'm guessing one of Holmes or ReyLo end up there anyways.

agreed.. which is why I am not sure the Braves would do it. Degorm has a bit better lineage as being elite and at least pitched last year.. but Lopez is about 50 million cheaper over the next 2 years.
But Lopez is a likely notably worse pitcher and he is trying to return from should surgery. And he's a pitcher who has thrown over 130 innings exactly once since 2019. DeGrom is actually less of an injury risk.

I think the hope is Holmes is back in the pen/spot starter... But I would rather see a mid tier pitcher get acquired and then another young gun be given a serious look in spring with Lopez and Holmes in the pen. Strider/Sale/Schwelly/waldrep/Bassitt type is a good starting 5, but that walking wounded needs a 6 man rotation to make it through the season..

but is that worth 50 million over 2 years.. Don't get me wrong.. would love Jake.. but I think the Braves wouldn't touch that without the Rangers kicking in more money, even with Lopez offsetting some.

Braves should have held Waldrep back a few starts to keep his rookie status in tack.. not really, but I would think he would be a favorite going into the year if he still had that status.

I mean the choice isn't Lopez or Degrom. It's Lopez and whoever you spend the remaining money on vs Degrom.
I suppose that is true.

However, I could also point out that trading for deGrom and freeing up Lopez' money might allow us to sign someone else we may not otherwise have been able to. Or, if the pitcher we sign is Cease or some other pitcher with a QO, you are also giving up a pick. So in that scenario, you would have to weigh DeGrom, freed up cash, plus our 2nd pick VS Lopez, Cease, less cash, and losing our 2nd pick.

Yes. deGrom was a 3+ WAR starter in 2025. His issue is health and it's a major concern if he can throw 300+ innings over the next two years. But what is clear is when he's on the mound he's really good to elite.

DeGrom is going to get the "I grew up in Chipper's hometown and he was one of my idols" XP boost if he comes here and pitch like Sale and Morton did in their late 30's over here.

Then when Sale leaves, DeGrom will be that year to year option extent guy that AA loves to keep around.
