He's down to a .671 OPS in Atlanta. He would have had to have an amazing Sept to even make declining the option a possibility. Hopefully the BABIP Gods don't smile upon him until next year.
 
It's a small sample, but with the Braves he has a .307 xwOBA (right in line with his career value) and a 3.7% BB rate (way below his career rate). I would expect his walk rate to improve and everything else looks fine.

Even if this is the version of Kim they get for all of 2026 he's so much better than Allen it's a huge upgrade. I don't think people appreciate just how bad a .533 OPS is over 400+ PAs. It's literally like having a pitcher batting in the lineup for a full season while the rest of the league gets a DH.
 
I expect him to be better next year. He had pretty serious shoulder surgery. My main question was how would his power come back. He cabt afford to lose any.
 
It doesn't matter how much power comes back. He's a huge step up from Allen as is.

Folks really don't seem to understand how low the bar has been at SS. Literally anything is better and will be a big help in 2026.
 
Just adding this here:

Since being traded from the Rockies  to the Braves, both Pierce Johnson and Tyler Kinley have been outstanding. Johnson posted a 0.76 ERA after his 2023 trade and Kinley has been equally dominant, allowing just six hits, six walks and one earned run.

Needless to say, the Braves rank high on the list:

Astros: 17.6
Orioles: 17.0
Dodgers: 15.2
Red Sox: 14.4
Braves: 14.2

While it's easy to blame injuries for the Braves bad record, the reality is that every team who's been hurt more by injuries has a better record than the Braves, most significantly better:

Astros: 83-69
Orioles: 72-80
Dodgers: 84-67
Red Sox: 82-69
Braves: 69-83

This speaks volumes about just how completely and utterly AA failed at building depth into this roster. The Braves had no answer for any injuries, unlike every other team that suffered more injuries than the Braves did. We've been talking about how terrible the bench has been, and this season shows the consequences. This season is on AA for not acquiring any depth, and on Snit for failing to deploy players like an injured Ozuna correctly.

Having the 5th most WAR lost to injuries should not have turned a title contender into a 90 loss team. Every other contender managed to figure it out.
 
Michael Harris and SS are the biggest holes position wise. Harris and Allen can't be starters next season. Harris' walk rate guarantees he will never see good pitches to hit, and Allen is just terrible. Am

I agree about the depth, but those ranking don’t take into account performance affected due to injury. See Albies, Riley, and Strider. Hell, Acuña too.
 
So we think the Braves are unique in the sense that players were playing at less than 100%, or coming back from injuries? Other teams on this list had players come back at 100% performance? I doubt it.

Either way, it proves depth is paramount. Tucker, Hader, Cease, bullpen arms.

Were any of those players coming back from wrist, 2nd UCL, knee/achilles, or any other major injuries that have been known to cause lingering performance issues?

He has a mutual option at 10 million for 26 so I don't know if the Phillies will pick it up. They have a lot more places they need to spend on C, SP, and trying to resign Schwarber. Bader won't be high on their list and he'll probably want some security with multiple years.

Mutual options almost never vest.
