2025-2026 offseason thread

He has a mutual option at 10 million for 26 so I don't know if the Phillies will pick it up. They have a lot more places they need to spend on C, SP, and trying to resign Schwarber. Bader won't be high on their list and he'll probably want some security with multiple years.
There’s no way he agrees to 1/$10 and the Phillies would be thrilled if he did that. He’ll get more than 2/$14 pretty easily I’d think.

From a yahoo article :

If Bader wants to come back, Grazel predicts that "The contract could be for two years and $20 million, including up to $2.5 million in bonuses, and a player option after the two seasons."

From Philly to resign him

Philly probably resigns him and I am fine with that. He is not a starting caliber player. Career .698 OPS coming into this season. I hope Philly overpays him.

Career 112 ops+, .762 ops vs lhp.

I prefer going after Tucker, but I doubt that happens. Bader as a platoon for Harris if he doesn't rebound and a solid defender to get profar and Acuna at DH seems like a decent option

Guys that mash LHP and are horrible vs RHP aren't super valuable roster pieces because LHPs only make up around 25% of all pitchers in baseball. That means that hitter is really only playable 25% of the time. And a career OPS of .762 is not exactly what I would call mashing LHP.

Bader would be fine if the plan was to platoon him and Harris AND if Bader came relatively cheap (say 2/20). But I doubt we have plans to platoon Harris and I doubt Bader is very cheap.

They better have a backup plan for Harris. He's gonna keep swinging his way on out of baseball

Will the Chi-Sox pick up the option on Luis Robert? I feel like they will since they have no one else to play CF anyways and it's only 20 million.

I think other teams would have more interest than us if he became a FA though.

Bellinger would be my top option among the players we would realistically pursue in FA. Zero chance we throw 200-300 million (or more) at Tucker.

Lots of potential trade pieces we could look at too. Someone like Taylor Ward would be a good option that shouldn't cost too much. Maybe Steven Kwan. Lars Nootbaar is another. Yes I know Kwan and Lars are LH. They are just decent OF options in general so that Acuna and Profar can DH more often. And they are athletic enough to cover CF if needed.

AA has goofed up so much the past 2 seasons that he needs to make a splash this offseason and Tucker would be that plus we need a high end OF to rotate through the OF and DH. If not Tucker then Bellinger is my top target.

It is unacceptable to go into next season without a starting caliber platoon partner for Harris.
I think this is very clearly true. Replacing Ozuna with a CF-capable hitter is the obviously correct move. At the very least that player allows the 4 OFers rotate through the DH slot.

That's why I like Bellinger bc he can play all 3 OF spots and backup 1b well. This team needs to be more versatile instead of players who can only play 1 position or none at all.

Bader/Harris a good plan for a CF platoon.

It really depends on the manager though. Smelly Snit would not be able to handle it. I have suppressed the memories of Snit leading off with Joc against LHP

I would personally not want a player on the bench that is only valuable 25% of the time.. give me a legit 4th OF that can rotate through the DH and if Harris face plants again, then address that in season. you could get any cast off bopper that can be a DH when harris sits vrs a LHP.. Or when MethHead gets back, Drake and Meth can both be in the lineup when a LHP is on the mound.

I want flexibility and a manager who knows how to deploy said lineup.

the age of building a roster so the idiot in charge doesn't have to think too much needs to be over..

I would love an OF like you mentioned. I guess Bellinger fits that description, but just trying to think of a realistic guy. Until AA hands out a huge FA deal, I don't expect one

He's the RH platoon for Harris. Career for each...
Harris vs rhp - 110 wrc+
Bader vs lhp - 106 wrc+
Both are plus defenders in cf
Not if Bader is gonna command a starting salary.

Weren't you one of the one's bitching all last season about how much we spent to bring in JK? Now you want to bring in a guy who is more or less the same guy (pre 2025) for similar money? I mean at least JK had youth on his side and was playable more than 25% of the time.

lol, bader and Kelenic aren't similar at all other than being white.

ETA... Kelenic isn't RH to start with. Vs rhp, he's 94 wrc+, so worse than Harris. He's a negative defender on top of that
