2025-2026 offseason thread

Sale extension
Acuna extension (ill advised imo)
Baldwin extension

This will be some of it imo
I would be shocked if a Sale extension doesn't happen. He seems to be the next Morton for AA, which is fantastic.

Baldwin extension makes sense if he takes the Harris deal. While Harris is looking bad now, the extension was a reasonable gamble at the time, and a similar gamble on a young catcher also makes sense.

Extending Acuna would be a disaster unless it's as team friendly as his current contract.

Lane Thomas could be a nice buy low option for RH CF

ETA... career .859 ops vs lhp. He's my new favorite target for rh cf. Is plantar fasciitis a recurring deal?

Fine, and on a team that had the worst OF in baseball for the 1st half, JK was sporting a .600 ops in AAA. They aren't similar, at all.

And who are some of the trade options? It's easy to just jump on a suggestion, but you won't make one yourself.
What about 2024 JK is hard to understand? I clearly wasn't referencing his 2025 performance at all.

You bitched about JK all of 2024. Now you're advocating signing a guy who over the last 4 years has extremely similar offensive numbers as 2024 JK. That's entirely the point.

And I literally pointed out 3 different options off the top of my head that I recall were involved in rumors at the deadline. Ward, Kwan, and Nootbaar. I haven't even looked at anyone to know or care whether they are available, but there most definitely will be several others.

There's a chance the braves may see Eli white as the rh cf option and get a corner OF
I think Eli has proven that he is a guy who can be very good in spurts, but with regular playing time he gets worse.

Most guys improve with regular AB’s, but Eli seems to be the opposite.

I know we want upgrades but manager needs to shake out first thing bc certain guys will be useless here given Snit doesn't know how to use them.

A couple other trade candidates for the OF to either let Profar/Acuna rotate DH or replace Harris if necessary:

Jarren Duran. Boston is certainly willing to trade him, but the prospect package would likely be substantial. He has been average or better at CF over his career.

Byron Buxton. We've already tried to trade for him at the deadline. He says he wants to stay in Minny, but he may change his mind after watching how terrible that team is now. He is also from GA so maybe that would make him change his mind.

We already know when AA gets enamored with a player how he keeps on so Buxton is probably a realistic option. Cease will be the SP he's after I'll guess bc he's been after him for a while also.

I think Cease is the guy that holds out this cycle and ends up being forced to take a short term deal to rebuild value, like Bregman did last year. Something like 3/100 with opt outs. With how abundant quality pitching is going to be this cycle, he really can't afford to hold out for the biggest deal. And Boras won't let him take a below market deal.

I do not know that quality pitching is abundant this cycle. You can pay the Astros dude for his end times. Beyond that ... ?

Cease
Valdez
Suarez
King (technically an option remaining, but next to zero chance he accepts it)
Woodruff (technically an option remaining, but next to zero chance he accepts it)
Peralta
And probably Shane Bieber (2026 option, but seems unlikely to accept at the moment)

And those are just your front of the rotation variety of pitchers. You also have several middle-to-back of the rotation types and a couple of former TORs looking for a cushion deal to try and rebuild value. Guys like:

Zack Littell
Chris Bassitt
Zac Gallen
Lucas Giolito (2026 option he seems likely to decline)
Merrill Kelly
Tyler Mahle
Nick Martinez

Forgot Walker Buehler at the bottom there. Good buy low bounce back candidate

Buehler is cooked. I’ve expected Giolito to become a Brave at some point for a while now. I am just hoping for a durable mid rotation signing just to leave more resources for other holes. Someone that won’t break the bank and will be one less Cal Quantrill if things go badly.

The pitching list just doesnt blow my skirt up and I'm not sure they'll be available.

As always you will be paying a lot for declining guys except seems like a lower ceiling class than usual. The lack of headliners makes good deals a little less likely.

The point is, there is a lot of quality pitching.
