Waldrep will be in the rotation but why does it have to be on opening day?Sale, strider, SS, and Waldrep are pretty much locks to start the season in the rotation. I'm not sold strider sticks, and God knows, sale will end up hurt, but I have a hard time seeing us selling 2 starting pitchers on signing. I think it's 1 starter and someone that AA identifies as a Lopez/king/holmes. Of course, he could trade for a starter to remove their choice
Strider and SS are not locks. I wouldn’t be shocked if either had something done this offseason to fix another issue from injuries they had this year.Sale, strider, SS, and Waldrep are pretty much locks to start the season in the rotation. Bowman tweeting that Kim is expected to decline his 26 option. I really hope AA is working out the extension. Otherwise, that was a waste of money that likely only served to bump us down the draft board.
SS is getting concerning to me. The 2 guys available will almost certainly get deals that AA isn't comfortable doing. If Allen is our starting SS again, Kyle Tucker better be a brave
Maybe decline because he is resigning. Who knows. But I don’t feel like it was a waste. If nothing else it showed the dummies running this org that actual real players are important.Bowman tweeting that Kim is expected to decline his 26 option. Once again you are 100% exactly correct. You’re not wrong, but in the case of the Braves we are entering next season with our top 5 starting pitchers being higher than expected injury risks
Sale - Mid 30’s. Your guess is as good as mine what ailment will cause him to miss time
Strider - Multiple arm injuries. Days as a TOR may be over
Schwelly - His arm literally exploded
Lopez - Shoulder. Likely needs to back to the pen
Holmes - High likelihood to need Tommy John
Waldrep, Elder, Ritchie are nice depth, but the risk profile requires at least 2-3 high quality options, including someone you could trust to start a playoff game.
Nolan Ryan?I don't see AA making the same mistake this offseason. Whatever SP he goes after shouldn't have much of an injury history either.
Rangers or Astros version?Nolan Ryan?
so what do you think would be an appropriate offseason as far as injury proofing the rotation?
You’re more exhausting than my wife.Anything more than "absolutely nothing" like last offseason would be a very good start. So let's wait for that step to be taken, and talk about further moves once AA literally does anything to address the rotation.
Even one addition of a MLB caliber SP will be a massive help compared to last year. Literally...one. Just one (1) single addition. One...that's how low the bar is right now. One.
