It happens sometimes. Jay Powell did it in the middle of an appearance with the Braves in 2004.
 
I would absolutely trade Waldrep in the right deal. I just don't know what that deal is. If Skubal had an extra year of control, I would say he is your target. But 1 year of Skubal for Waldrep (plus others) is really risky.

I would in a Buxton & Ryan deal. Ryan is controlled for 2 more years but could probably be extended.
 
I seem to have gone from being the low man on Waldrep to his biggest advocate. Nobody is untradeable, but he just posted a .308 xwOBA, and looks to be a legit #3. Completely revamping his arsenal by adding the cutter and sinker, and then using them as his primary pitches, is pretty remarkable.

So unless some team values him as more than a 3 win guy controlled for 5 years, I don’t see how trading him is the right move.

Going deep into games isn't a thing that you're supposed to want any more.

Agree. A cheap mid-rotation starter is not something that should be traded I don't think.

Particularly when health and rotation depth is a weakness.
 
Buxton just makes too much sense. We can split DH between Profar, Buxton, and Acuna to keep everyone healthy (assuming Weiss knows how to manage playing time better than Snit). Buxton also gives you insurance in case Harris continues the trend of the last 2 seasons.

Ideally, against most LHP, we sit Harris and start Buxton in CF and Profar or White in LF and either Profar or Drake can DH.
 
I think I'd prefer Sonny Gray as our SP target this offseason. No QO offer and probably shouldn't have a huge prospect cost since it's just one year of control at a significant cost. We keep the Baldwin pick that way and still get a quality starter who has been really durable lately.

And he doesn’t break the budget.

Just depends what you’re willing to give up prospect-wise. It will hurt a bit.
 
Buxton would be a massive addition. Between him, Profar, Acuna and Harris, you can rotate them between the outfield spots, and DH.

He is really our best trade chip. I guarantee you he has TJ or the brace surgery next year. Feels like any young Braves SP is fated for a major injury once they break out.
