2025-2026 offseason thread

Did someone just say the Braves “have pitching in droves”? The same Braves team that just finished #23 in pitching WAR?

Talking about prospects. Keep up.
Unless the Braves sign a few pitchers, we’ll need these prospects as insurance for all the injury risks on the big league rotation and the utter lack of quality bullpen arms

We have enough to lose 1, maybe 2 high end guys to a trade.

With Lopez back and a FA signing, we should have 6 quality SP options, to go along with top end prospects and then AAAA type of guys like Elder and Wentz. And the maybe even Holmes in a pinch.

We’ve been talking about some sort of Donovan plus Gray package, but think about that from the Cards perspective. When the Braves were rebuilding, would you package someone like Prado with an underwater contract? Or would you maximize the prospect return for Prado, and then use some cash you wouldn’t be spending to contend anyways to pay down Gray and get a better return?

Every single one of us would use our own cash to increase the prospect return, and I expect the Cards to do the same.
Of course, we actually did exactly this during the rebuild, trading the best closer in baseball so we could dump BJ Upton's contract.

Chris Bassitt seems like somebody we'll be interested in. If we did trade Waldrep to upgrade SS or DH I could see us bringing him in. I'm surprised we haven't seen anybody get signed yet or traded.

Braves did lots of dumb things during the rebuild. Just shows you that scouting and player development trump all. And timing. The window opened earlier because of AA, and might’ve closed before it began if he hadn’t come along when he did.

Any team wanting Gray is gonna want the Cards to pay down his salary but that doesn't mean they are gonna get some really good return out of it. Putting Donovan with him will lessen what they have to send back money wise.

This is the time of the year I long for the return of murph3 and the inventive trade proposals he would post. Needless to say the Braves were often getting a future Hall-of-Famer for two guys who were never going to sniff the majors in those deals, but the back-and-forth and reactions to the proposals were pure message board gold.

Yeah his trades were the best lol. And he legit thought they were fair so some of the guys ripped him apart and he left lol. I'm sure he still lurks.

I still miss HorseHide Harry... he would put a lot of thought in his though.. and some made sense, but every trade involved 15 moving parts and at least 3 teams it seemed.

With Naylor setting the market early for offensive players, I think guys like Hader are going to cost a lot now. I would find great pleasure in seeing Philly do something dumb like 4/60 for Bader, followed suit by giving Realmuto 3/50. Then top it off by giving that beer leaguer Schwarber 5/150.
