2025-2026 offseason thread

Right. So when he doesn’t sign anyone that takes the pick away, he can just say a deal that made sense never materialized. That pick isn’t going anywhere.
I agree... Just don't see them giving that pool money away for any of the FA out there and I also don't see them giving out the contracts that those FA's are going to command.

A reporter with KTLA (Los Angeles) who is at the Winter Meetings says the Dodgers are in preliminary talks with the Tigers about a mega deal for Skubal. Obviously, nothing immenent, but the momentum is very real.

Padres reportedly shopping Pivetta and Cronenworth. Pivetta is owed 19 million this year and has an opt out after 26. Cronenworth is signed for 5 years at 11 million per. Padres reportedly needed to shed payroll. Cronenworth is a decent position versatile lefty bat but his contract is way too long for his age. He has played some SS so maybe he could get some at bats there. Otherwise he can get at bats at DH and backup Albies who gets hurt a lot. Padres arent firesaling and we know they liked Murphy. That would help us absorb the 30 million Pivetta/CW make. Maybe we could expand it to include Reliever Jason Adams who is great but in his mid 30s and has only 1 year left. Would fill most of our biggest holes and probably still leave room to add more.

Yeah I would be shocked if the Dodgers dont get him. They have some damn good prospects the Tigers would be crazy to pass on. For the Dodgers there is no time that matters but now. A reckoning will come one day because of that but who cares if you win 3+ WS in a row. And they got the money to sign him before he hits FA 400 million is nothing to them.

i am just saying, on a per-game basis cronenworth had a higher outs above average and fielding run value at SS than nick allen last year

...it was in 79 IP, but still

A quote from AA’s availability yesterday that I haven’t seen anywhere:

“Some of the guys we’ve talked about [adding] this winter are that kind of Swiss Army knife type that could [start and pitch in relief]; that has tremendous value to us as well.”

Brad Keller? Michael King?

AA interview recently he said he views Sale/Spencers/Lopez as locked into first 4 spots locked in. Then he says last spot is competition between Elder/Wentz/Waldrep/Holmes. He said all will be stretched out in ST and Waldrep knows he is probably starting at AAA Bbecause he has options and others dont. Sounds like he really likes Holmes as a starter. Says he claims his stuff is better than pre-injury. I dont think we adding a SP this year. AA mentioned pitchers like Lopez who can start or relieve they have talked to. Hopefully he means Brad Keller.

Bichette and Dubón would be a lot better than Albies and Dubon but Albies ain't going anywhere next year. Hopefully he rebounds but AA will for sure get another SS. If Cease would have been around the 25-27 per range I think AA would have moved on it but he was smart to not touch 30.
I think people are greatly overestimating the chances of AA adding another SS.

He's already hedging on the SP needs, and is about to make the same mistake again with the rotation relying on massive injury risks.

Wake up and smell the payroll constraints people.

He has 500 innings at SS the last 4 years and wasnt bad so I gotta think we could maybe get 500 innings at SS and use Doubon as a defensive replacement. CW bat suddenly looks real good at SS. I think the issue with him is his arm. He has no real time at 3B.

I'm gonna give it another month but you might be right. If he talks himself into thinking the rotation is actually ok and Holmes and Lopez both go down in the 1st month like most expect and Striders velo really is 96 now then AA needs to be on thin ice bc he'll have wasted another year of Ronald and the rest. He's hedging on the rotation now and needing another DH type. He's gonna get a couple of fringe guys and try to spin that the market never spun his way and he almost signed somebody that would have cost us the pick and all that mess. If that happens then I'm ready for a change at GM and I think a lot of other people will be too.

Yeah, i've been saying all offseason we aren't going to do anything outside of minor things on the edges. I smell a another massive fail this offseason.

Then next season, he can blame it all again on you can't plan for injuries and blah blah blah. Right now, we just aren't a good baseball team. We have some good names that are capable of performing at a high level or have done so in the past, but this team has no mojo at all. I'd love a Joc Pederson to come in and shake up the clubhouse

Honestly the pen and offense worry me the most. I get the feeling we will end up starting Eli White and other scrubs so the regulars can rotate through DH. Then what happens when the injuries hit and we are starting guys we got off waivers at DH. We desperately need 2 or 3 position versatile platoon bats. If we solidify the offense and pen we got plenty of back end SP to get us through injuries so long as the studs are healthy for October. Brad Keller imo is the move to make for the pen. Could also try him as starter if need be.
