2025-2026 offseason thread

so to that, you guys think AA is going to add another expensive SS to the team pushing Dubon to the bench as well. So the braves, after spending a few 100K on the bench the last 15 years, is all of a sudden have 20 million riding the bench 70% of the time...

gotcha.

This also is the team reportedly trying to sign multiple high end closers. People need to rethink how the Braves spend money. They will spend but not in terms of big long term contracts. 3 years 60 million deal goes south its a setback. a 7 year 300 million contract goes bad and its an albatross. They prefer to pay more for less long term risk,

All the more reason to keep him. Esp if we take him at his word: he says the hip has been bothering him for last few seasons intermittently. If this is true, there's potential we see the 5 fWAR monster of 2023 again
barring an injury.. he won't play enough to get that. you can pretty much set your watch to the fact the first 2 months Yaz is playing the field vrs a RHP and Murph will be sitting on the bench.

and I would love for the Yaz signing signal that the Braves are about to go crazy on spending and going to add more to the offense. having another big bat at SS would be incredible. I just don't see it based on what has happened in the past. It is too big of a jump to realistically expect.

Offense would be crazy good with Yaz and Seager. In fact I would probably split all DH at bats between Acuna and Seager just to keep them healthy. With that offense I can live with Dubon just providing elite defense at SS.

Another move that is either amazing, or extremely disappointing, just like the Dubon trade.

If Yaz and Dubon are elite depth, this is amazing.

If Yaz and Dubon are the primary SS and Ozuna replacement, this is extremely disappointing.

The amount they are paying Yaz gives me little hope he’s a depth move. Expect to see him get 500+ PAs in 2026.

you guys are like the homely guy at the bar who can't get any girl to talk to them and when the fat chick comes around at 2 am, you get all giddy.

I don't get spending 12 million a year on an aging LH bat that has declining numbers. Who is he replacing.. Acuna?? Not Harris since they are both LHH.. Profar?? So this is the big bat to fill the DH role??

And how do you see the team signing a SS now.. where does Dubon fit into that scenario?

What this tells me is this is it for the offense. NO WAY they are paying 12 million as a bench piece. Hope I am wrong, but that is how I see this.

I tend to agree with this. The offense is likely set.

I will add a caveat that I didn't realize until just a bit ago. The contract 2 years with a club option with a 4 mill buy out.. so he is not making 12 million.. it is like 9 then 10 mill with a 4 mill buyout on a club option that pays 7 for a 3rd year.. So there is a bit more hope in me that this is part of an elite bench and there is more to come.

Disagree. Murphy has value. He has 3/$45m left. He’d easily clear $45m as a free agent right now.
Doubtful considering he just had surgery and his recovery time is unknown. Not to mention he's already 30 with a history of injuries.

Kim was a high quality SS in a mostly barren FA class last year and had to settle for 2/29 with an opt out. And even after a solid run with us at the end of the season, he might not eclipse 3/45 this off-season.

Murphy is gonna have to prove he is both healthy and good before he recoups any trade value.

I think theres a good chance they sign Kim. I think he is their backup plan. If other things fall through and they are left with money to spend they sign Kim. I think he will atleast give us a chance to match whatever the best offer is. That he wants to wait plays into our favor. The Dubon trade was to prevent us from being totally fucked if Kim just signs with someone out of the blue.

9 million for a 2 WAR player to be on your bech or on the strong side of a platoon is a good move regardless of what people say. If he posts a 115 WRC+ in 500 ABs agaisnt RHP while letting Profar and Acuna DH agaisnt lefties it's going to be a win for the team.

Isit me or is the game changing in its view of relievers value. With starters going less and less innings the line begins to blur between starter and reliever. Turning relievers into starters seems to be the new fad. The Harry Ford trade had me scratching my head but then I looked at the reliever they got back. With the playoffs ever expanding teams are more incentivized than ever to build a playoff team and hope you make it,
