2025-2026 offseason thread

Doubtful considering he just had surgery and his recovery time is unknown. Not to mention he's already 30 with a history of injuries.

Kim was a high quality SS in a mostly barren FA class last year and had to settle for 2/29 with an opt out. And even after a solid run with us at the end of the season, he might not eclipse 3/45 this off-season.

Murphy is gonna have to prove he is both healthy and good before he recoups any trade value.
Kim will get 3/$45m or more this offseason. He’s also never put up 5+ WAR season. Murphy, coming off 2 WAR while playing part time and injured, would clear 3/$45m.

Hmm. This makes two years in a row that I'm not crazy about the Braves' big FA addition and for a lot of the same reasons. We're buying high off a career year, giving a 3-year contract to a player entering his decline years, and the player has some obvious warts under the hood. I'm certainly not forecasting doom, but I think there's a good chance we're gonna be disappointed with the net result here in time. Not devastated, but disappointed and regretful. Hope I'm wrong.

The biggest reason for optimism from this deal is, others have said, it seems to signal a willingness to spend big as opposed to worrying about the luxury tax.

would anyone trade MH2 straight up for Buxton? would the Twinkies say no?

didn't we have this convo already.. nevermind.
Not saying it would be straight up. I’m assuming Harris would be required to be in the deal along with top prospects since Baldwin and (presumably) the two Spencers are off limits. Maybe the Twins have just flat out told people they plan to keep him, but AA has repeatedly demonstrated he’ll stay after guys. I remember there being a good amount of talk of us being in on Suarez last year before San Diego decided to stay the course.

We don't know what Kim will get until he signs it. And even then, last year he quite certainly didn't have that offer in the same situation that Murphy is currently in now.

Kim was also 28/29 and didn't have a significant history with injuries. Compare that to a 30 year old catcher that has missed most of the last 2 season to injury and also hasn't been great offensively. If he wasn't recovering from surgery, then maybe he would clear 3/45. Maybe.

actually coming off a career two seasons. and it looks like it is because he is throwing his 4 seamer more and harder which is a good pitch and mixing in a sinker that moves a lot like his 4 seamer but a bit more (weird combo imo).. and then only mixing in his bad change up on occasion versus more in prior years.

would love to see him add something breaking to the glove side.. but at his age, I think you get what you get.. which should still be good if deployed properly.

This addition puts the offseason in the "acceptable" range (Grade D) even if another move isn't made.

Adding any legit MLB SP puts it in the "average" range (Grade C).

Compared to the F grades he's gotten lately, this is great to see. AA seems to be back in the saddle, which is a huge relief.
I'd give him better than a D. He's added good quality depth to the OF and BP so far and got a really good INF utility guy. If he gets another SP and a good SS that's an A offseason.

Do you want to bet Kim clears $45m? I think he will. If his market were that cool, he’d be back by now.

The two are in almost the exact same situation this offseason…except Murphy was a lot more productive last year. Murphy is a year older but is also the better player when both are healthy.

Seriously, JTR is going to get like $30m+. Murphy would get 3/$45.

Whose ready for "we did add multiple SP this year. Reynaldo and Holmes are back from injury. Plus we get a whole year from Waldrep"
Seriously, watch them roll out a 6 man rotation with Lopez and Holmes in the last spots.

They are not remotely in the same situation. Murphy just had surgery and it is unknown when he will return.

And JTR has been better and healthier than Murphy by a good bit over the last 2 seasons. He's also currently healthy, unlike Murphy.

Murphy easily would get 3/45 this offseason. If Kim's market was that hot he would have signed by now. Boras usually has 1 guy he over plays and that's probably gonna end up being Kim.

Was Wickman the last contact closer the Braves had? Suarez is an odd choice to go 3 years on in my opinion, but it’s nice to see them going for it.

Kim doesn't have a significant injury history? What?
