2025-2026 offseason thread

We do technically have the money for him but Skubal's contract will be like 400+M or more. Or something like 8 years, 300 to 350M.
Skubal is gonna require a 400+ million contract. I just hope it isn't from a NL East team or the Dodgers.

I will say, if someone wants to sign him to one of those sweet Dodger deals, they are gonna need to trade for him right now. I get the feeling that the MLB is gonna nip those deals in the bud next off-season during labor negotiations.

Buyer beware on him and skenes... they'll need TJ soon. No one escapes that throws that hard

Probably. But there are always exceptions. Scherzer has been at 95+ for most his career and never had TJS. Verlander avoided TJS until his late 30's.
I'm still surprised skenes hasn't needed it yet. When he left Air Force, he was throwing low 90s and went straight to 100 at lsu

I trust AA won't do something as stupid as giving up the 26th pick to sign Zach Gallen, or give up that pick to win the bidding war on the right watch Ranger Suarez turn into Jaime Moyer.

If a QO FA SP sees his market collapse, there are price points for almost all those guys where it makes sense to lose the 26th pick.

I actually like Ranger Suarez. I don't want to pay him top of the market prices, but I'd be comfortable with something like 4/90.

However, he does give me Jordan Montgomery 2023 vibes. That didn't turn out so well for AZ.

No on Valdez and hell no on giving up a pick for Gallen. Gallen should have taken the QO and tried to rebuild some value next year.

Thing with Suarez is, any deal we are all comfortable enough with, I’d bet the Phillies would match it or give him a little bit extra. They don’t lose a pick obviously.

Agreed. Gallen should have taken the QO. The only SP I would have lost the pick for is Cease. I think AA already knows what a trade for the kind of SP he wants will cost and he doesn't wanna lose Ritchie, Waldrep, or Caminiti. Just sign Bassit and be done. And it won't cost a pick.

I just don’t trust a guy on the wrong side of 30 who tops out at 92 mph on his fastball and doesn’t even have one elite pitch (although he does have a couple very good ones). That sounds like a steep decline waiting to happen that we’re going to have to pay for.

I’d definitely sign him on a shorter term deal, just not a long one.

his sinker is plus to plus plus.. his change is above average and his BB% is elite.. combine that with 5 pitches he throws consistently.. then I could see him aging well.

But do I want the Braves to pay him 5 years 100+ million.. probably not. But I can see the attraction a front office would have for him.. His injury risk seems to be lower (even though he dealt with some issues last year)..
