2025-2026 offseason thread

hmm.... while I love seeing teams actually spend money to get great players.. I just don't know if I am a true believer in Ranger being a great player.. I feel like he is a lot of smoke and mirrors with a little bit of talent sprinkled in. Be interested to see how he fairs in that park too. He will give up some base runners and being a hitter friendly park, that contract might go bad really quick.

Seeing AA getting memed on here with x amount of days left until spring training, almost made me nostalgic for the "flip" days of the Hart regime. Everyone was potentially a flip candidate.

Key phrase being “almost”

Personally, I am more nostalgic for the JS (backed by Uncle Ted’s ammo) days….

I am glad he's gone from the division at least. He turns into Nolan Ryan against us. They do have some young pitching behind him though.

I think our pitching concerns are less about projections, which by nature cluster around a median, and more the downside variance. There is absolutely a scenario where everything works out great for the starting staff -- Sale is hale and healthy like he was in 2024, Strider bounces back, Schwellenbach recovers and grows into the ace he looked like he might be last year, Lopez pitches like 2024, Holmes makes it through the season as a high-strikeout #4/5 guy, Waldrep consolidates his gains, etc. That's totally reasonable.

There's also a totally reasonable scenario where every one of our top five starters suffers a serious injury. I actually wouldn't be surprised if our starting staff had the highest potential range of outcomes of any rotation in baseball.

I would argue the Dodgers staff is equally as risky. If not more. Yamamoto is the only returning SP on their staff that threw more than 100 innings last year. Ohtani has had 2 TJs already and is just coming back from it. Snell has missed about 10 starts or more in 3 of the last 4 years, and had shoulder issues this past season. Glasnow is literally hurt every year. I think you could easily see some issues with Yamamato this year after the Dodgers tried to blow his arm out in the post-season.

The Braves need a SP so badly MLBTR decided to write an entire article about it.

The money quote: “If they could push a "turn off injuries" button, they'd be in excellent shape. Every team wishes they could keep pitchers healthy, of course, but the Braves look particularly vulnerable.”

The Braves have the perhaps the riskiest rotation of any contender, and failing to address that risk with at least one more reliable option is unacceptable. AA is well on his way to a very solid offseason for the first time in a while, and I fully expect him to finish the job.

It was the clearest whole on the roster in my opinion… right up there with SS.

I thought everyone knew that 🤷
