15 days until pitchers and catchers report. Today would be a great day for AA to add a starting pitcher and/or deepen the bench.

This would be a AA type move but probably not worth blowing the rest of the budget over. Maybe at the deadline if the Braves were in it and the Rangers were out. I guess you could send them Bummer if Texas required a good prospect to offset some of the money.
he doesn't win every year "just" because he pitches and hits, he wins because he is the second best hitter in the game and also pitches like a cy young candidate when he's healthy

(Not that this should factor into the discussion, but he also generates (hundreds?) millions of dollar of revenue and gets paid in coupons so his cancerous team can spend $120m per year on Kyle Tucker)

Ohtani is great no doubt but with the amount of talent he has on that team it would be hard for me to give an MVP to a guy surrounded with several other MVP's. I'd still take the guy (Judge or Acuna or whoever else) plays the field everyday and hits.

People often confuse most valuable and best. You can be the most valuable player and not be the best player that year. Sadly the people voting get it confused more than the fans. Ohtani is the best player in the game hands down, but it doesn’t mean he’s the most valuable every year. I’d say a guy that carries a middling team to the playoffs or WS is more valuable than a guy who is surrounded by 15 other overpaid all stars who should be in the World Series just by parking their payment deferred Lambo’s and stepping on the field.

Why would the Rangers trade him after going in on Gore? I'd love it, but that seems beyond unlikely .

There had been reports they were trying to cut payroll. They didn't save much on the Semien trade.

I like that, after decades and decades of fierce fighting, we managed to win the war over the idea that the MVP can't come from a losing team, and now we're pushing the idea that the MVP can't come from a team that's too good.

I’m partial to letting voters fudge the scale in favor of guys whose leadership makes a clear impact (or lack thereof).
But generally it’s usually quite obvious who the best player is and to the writers credits, they almost always get it right these days.

They get confused because they’re the same thing. Just because Ohtani is on a better team doesn’t make him less valuable. If you put Ohtani on the Braves last year, they make the playoffs.
If Ohtani pitches and hits all year, no one is having a similar season (except maybe Judge, but he’s in the AL). Ohtani is worth 7-9 wins offensively and then add another 3-4 wins as a pitcher. You do the math.
Ohtani should theortectically win every year because he's that good. But the writers have a history of not giving a guy the MVP too many time in a row. Ohtani winning 3 in a row is only the second time it's ever happened (Bonds won 4 in a row at one point) but it should have happened several times. Bonds should have had another 4 peat. Pujols should have won like 6 in a row, etc.
