2025-2026 offseason thread

Is the Murphy news just official now? We knew last year he was likey to miss some time.
I think it was just an update from one of the beat writers that said he will be out until at least May. Sounds like the time frame maybe moved back just a bit.

I am more curious as who is replacing the RHH production that Kim and Murph could potentially provide for the first 2+ months. Is AA really going into spring hoping Eli can carry the RH pinch hitting role?

Yeah we need another bat.

Folks want a pitcher but I think that can be added during the year more easily than a bat that we will need immediately

White will be carrying the RHH platoon role in LF, so more than just PH duties. Depending on pitching matchups, that could be up to 100 PAs for him. So if we think he can post a .700+ OPS in those 100 PAs vs LHP, it might not be worth adding another bat.

I still think the need for a SP is greater. We are roughly 3 weeks away from hearing about how 1-2 of the current SPs won't be ready for opening day.

I wouldn't mind an Ozuna reunion if it is super cheap and then still go after a starter. Lopez and Holmes has to be pen options with possible opener roles given to them if you want to rest a starter here and there.

Ozuna would be nice to have the first 2-3 months while folks get healthy and then just a nice weapon off the bench..

that being said, WW would have to be fitted for a shock collar and used immediately when he falls in love with Ozuna getting hot for a game.

Bassitt is still the perfect fit bc of his durability and short term commitment. I'm surprised something hasn't gotten done unless he wants to many years or AA is trying to trade for a better starter. Either way I hope whoever it is don't come with a lot of injury concerns.

My guess is Bassitt is holding out for 3 years. He's quickly losing leverage though. Ozuna can't have much of a market. Offer him a few mil to come back.

Ozuna may take 5 million to come back and build a little value. Bassitt I'd agree he's probably wanting 3 years and we're willing to do 1 with an option.

It might be a good time to mention the Braves have exactly 13 position players on the entire roster right now, and 3 of them are Nacho, Eli and someone named Jorge Mateo. That's the exact opposite of a deep roster...it's literally as thin as it can be under current roster construction rules.

They need to add some bats.

I know we need another SP but at least we have depth there with Lopez, Holmes, Wentz, Elder, Waldrep, and Ritchie. We have 0 bats for depth in the minors. I wouldn't be opposed to Arraez bc he can play a few positions and can hit pretty well. A hip for a catcher can have a ton of set backs so we may need to realize that Murphy may miss most of next season.
