2025 Around The League Thread

I was just poking around mlb and saw a few interesting bites I didn't see here.

Looks like the Faillies grabbed Robertson for prorated 16 million.. crazy.. wonder if he will be able to provide much being this late in the season..

then I saw where Scott left with stinging sensation in his forearm for the Dodger$..getting an MRI.. might have dodgered a bullet there.

Strider's last 8 starts:

48.2 IP, 2.77 ERA, 2.48 FIP, xFIP 2.93, 11.65 K/9, 1.07 WHIP

Stuff wise, Strider isn't quite back to previous levels. His FB is now very average compared to being elite before. But his change and his curve have improved pretty dramatically and both have rated as plus pitches on Stuff+ over his last 8 starts. Combined with his SL, he now has 3 plus offerings to go along with a FB that has plus velocity but not much movement these days.

He may never get back to 2023 Strider, but this version is still pretty damn good. With these improvements on his secondary pitches, the rest of the league better hope he doesn't get his pre-injury fastball back, because he will be downright unhittable.

From what Ive seen of him this year he's becoming much more of a slider pitcher - which isn't a bad thing. We see how well that works for Sale, and he doesn't have an overwhelming FB.

I'm hoping it's more him just learning to trust the brace than the velocity isn't there
there is probably a little bit of that, but these guys work all off season conditioning and strength training.. Strider didn't have that and then got hit with a hammy... I just don't believe that he all of a sudden can't throw the ball hard anymore..

Ronnie could very well end up on the IL. But this dude has ZERO connections to the Braves. He's basically just a podcaster. He's purely guessing here and not basing it off anything he has actually heard.
Could be. He and I argue all the time, so he's hardly my go to. I didn't notice Acuna holding his side the other night... did any of you?

I haven't seen the footage to know if he actually did or if that's just what this guy is seeing himself. People have a tendency to see what they want to see.

I read in other places that he was holding his side and making grimaces after a throw to second.. but I also doubt it is serious and we probably would heard something by now. That said, a 10 day IL stint my help protect him from the idiots who run this org..

But this goes into the whole issue with this team.. they over work guys, especially who are coming off injuries. It takes a lot of time to build back the muscle and conditioning that a pro athlete has.. Ronnie playing in every game was always going to end poorly and is why I said in the off season that relying on him and Strider to produce at the level we were hoping was fools gold. Same with Riley and Ozzie.. it takes time to get all the way back.. even if no pain exists..

Miz's fWAR is .6 and Drake's is 2.4. If we get hosed out of that draft pick it should be a crime.
Miz has a better shot at accumulating war faster than Drake.... that said, I don't think he can build enough to pass Drake or even get to the 2.4 he is at right now.. But voters are fooled by flash, so I would still expect Miz to get it if he doesn't crash or get shut down for a bit..

why I hate this draft pick thing.. you are making a real thing contingent on someone's perceived value (prospect lists/ROY voters).. yeah, hopefully the Braves get the pick, but having real value like a draft pick and 3 mill in pool money be based on some (possibly biases) voter is just dumb..

It’s why I hated Miz making the all star team after 5 starts. Some voters will use that and use it against Drake for not making it. They will also use Miz being on a playoff team, so I hope he has a mediocre end of season.

Mizz likely won't even get to 100 IP for the year. Has a starting pitcher ever won ROTY with less than 100 IP that wasn't in a shortened season? I know some relievers have won, but generally those have been weak rookie classes or the RP just had an insane year, like Kimbrel.

Mizz would have to go on a Paul Skenes type of run in order to get serious consideration for ROTY. Honestly, his teammate Chad Patrick seems like a bigger threat to Drake at the moment.

He has averaged like 5 innings a start and only went 3.2 in his last one. That stuff should stick out but him making the all star game was a joke. I don't care how flashy he is or what he could be in the future the guys that had a good first half should get picked ahead of him and a lot of people talked about it.

I think the closest to Baldwin would be Caleb Durbin at 1.6 fWAR/2.1 bWAR. He's not playing every day and Baldwin will likely be playing between 80% and 90% of the games the rest of the way, so he's probably the odd's on favorite for ROY.
