2025 Around The League Thread

Next Sunday night might be the only Braves game worth watching that entire weekend. Waldrep is scheduled to start it. I'll have two TVs and watch both.
Go ahead and watch Notre Dame-Miami on the big screen. With Sale being slotted in on Saturday night, Strider gets the Sunday Night Baseball game. Waldrep gets the Labor Day game in Chicago.

The Braves core is aging just like every core ages. The issue is all the extensions AA signed (and were lauded by nearly everyone at the time) means there is zero flexibility to maneuver around that aging core. This is the risk I mentioned way back when everyone was so busy patting each other on the back for how smart all these extensions were.

Now the Braves are locked in on a core consisting of a declining LHH power goon at 1B, a 3B I think is the next Dan Uggla, a 2B who's contact skills can no longer make up for his complete lack of plate discipline, a CF who's contact skills are so volatile he is unplayable half the season, a SP with a twice rebuilt elbow who lost his elite pitch, an MVP candidate with 2 rebuilt knees that are ticking timebombs, and a C who can't handle the hot weather in a place notorious for hot weather.

Hopefully resetting the luxury tax means AA has significant cash to supplement the core, and this farm system can magically continue to produce 1-2 impact players per year.

AA needs to move on and ruin another franchise. Toronto is finally emerging from his tenure. Dodger's are a smart org which is why they let the dumbest person in their FO leave to other orgs.

Instead, I expect the following...
Iggy resigned
SS#2 extension
Ozuna resigned
Baldwin extended
Acuna extended
Sale extended
Sign a decent MIF to back up our terrible MIF
Some good relievers
A middle rotation starter

Lol what? Toronto had by their most success since the early 90’s under him and they haven’t come close since.

And this about the last year they had a chance to be competitive during the Vlad rookie window. They’ll be rebuilding after this, so we must have a different definition of “emerging”.

you are talking about the guy who had a .500 record while with the Jays and had block buster trades of Doc Holiday and landing the likes of RA dickey for Noah and travis.. Dude had nothing to do with the team of talent that is currently leading the AL east. He has been mediocre his whole career and took a Cadillac Braves team and stripped it down and put Yaris parts he found in the junk yard as his rebuild.

A cadillac Braves team? Talk about some revisionist history.

I could get on board with a cheap Baldwin extension and a short Sale extension.

Good BP arms and a MOR SP or better are both given.

WTF are you talking about? Can you read? I never said he had anything to do with the current team, dummy. In fact, you did by implying he was the reason they’ve mostly sucked for so long.

what.. FF/Swanson/Fried/Riley/Acuna/Ozzie/Conteras/Minter is a group of all stars to work with.

Only 4 of those players were on the active roster when AA took over.

He also was responsible for bringing in some pretty important pieces to our success over the years. Guys like Donaldson, Morton, Ozuna, Harris, Strider, Schwelly, Drake, and yes even Olson and Murphy, as much as people like to bemoan them. Not to mention key roles players like TDA, Flowers, Matzek, Jansen, Iggy and Smith.

The fact is, Coppy teams were awful. And AA hasn't missed the playoffs since he took over (obviously this will be his first when we are inevitably knocked out in 3 weeks).

There a lot things to criticize AA for. But acting like he's been some terrible GM that took over a perennial playoff team and ran it straight into the ground is an opinion that is just not based in facts.

agree, he hasn't missed the playoffs until he started letting those core guys walk away..

I am mostly bitching because I hate watching losers. I am giving AA the benefit of a lost season and letting the idiot savant manager play out the year pretending to be a manager... but if he brings twit back or fails to spend, then I am officially over his ass and will go full bitch mood on him.

Gee, I’d hate to see what that’s like.

Aside from Swanson, we have replaced those guys pretty well. I guess technically we didn't replace Fried in the literal sense, but in the last 3 years we developed Strider and Schwelly (maybe Waldrep too) and we traded for Sale. Not replacing Swanson is the biggest failure so far and a large part of our troubles the last 2 years. That, and keeping guys healthy.
