2025 Around The League Thread

Crochet would have been a huge get but that was way to much for us to give up looking back now. AA is gonna grab one of the big fish for the rotation no doubt this offseason. I still put my money on Cease since he's been after him for several years now even with Boras being his agent.

A Baldwin/AJSS/Waldrep package is about what everyone around here assumed Crochet would cost, and we all would have disliked it at the time. Now that Waldrep has possibly reinvented himself I am ever happier the trade didn't go down.

Knowing even Crochet wouldn't have saved this season, the Braves are much better off moving forward with those 3 young players.

I wouldn't make any big trades this offseason unless it's for a controllable SS using Murphy and maybe a pitching prospect. JR Ritchie and Caminiti need to be completely off limits.

I am completely fine moving Ritchie in the right trade. And I like Ritchie a lot.

But with Fuentes, Caminiti, and Owen Murphy killing it, and a few other wild cards like Briggs McKenzie, Baumann, Sinnard, Braun, and Hernandez, I feel like there is enough in the pipeline to not sweat losing Ritchie if the right trade comes along. The only untouchables in the pitching dept for me are Fuentes and Caminiti.

The fact is, even as great at developing pitching as we have been recently, the likelihood of 2 or more of these guys working out is pretty low. Ritchie, to me, doesn't quite have the upside Cam and Fuentes do.

Ritchie appears to have a slightly below average sinker in terms of velocity and movement, but the change has plus sink and the curve has plus glove-side movement. That's the makings of a solid mid-rotation piece...as usual depending on control.

just based on pitch metrics I prefer JR to Didier right now.

Ritchie should show out solid control. I’ve seen enough to think he’s not gonna walk the world

Red Sox released Walker Buehler. Now he is someone I wouldn't mind giving a rotation spot to see if we can squeeze anything out of. Quantril, Fedde and Carasco had next to a zero chance of ever being useful SPs again. But Buehler might still have something.

how would 2026 work if the Braves claimed him for league minimum. I assume the Soxs would decline the option I guess and pay his buyout.

you would like to think that he has something left at only 31... but he has been pretty rough for a year and a half after injury.

that said, I would take him over the other crap the team has.. including Elder.
