2025 Spring Training Thread

Perhaps…. Just Perhaps…. Our internal scouting, medical, and development told AA not to get too worked up about needing to overpay for SPs….. Perhaps not….

I can only assume we're bringing someone else in, either via trade or signing a FA like Robertson. Perdomo wasn't making much money, so it saves no money. Seems like we are freeing up a roster spot. And before anyone says McCann, if we wanted to add McCann to the 40 man, all we would need to do is cut Tromp. No one is claiming Tromp.

I can think of plenty of other guys to use to free up the roster spot over what for now would realistically be our third best left-handed bullpen option.

I think this just means AJSS and Ian are both likely to make the roster. One will be our No. 5 starter and the other will be a long-man in the BP.

They make this decision 10 days before opening day? Seems like a lot could happen between now and then.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Ian shipped out. He's gotta be our 8th SP option at this point, and that's before considering prospects currently not on the 40. When everyone is healthy, I am taking Holmes, AJSS, Elder, and probably Waldrep before I give Ian any starts.

I don’t think they should have been in a rush to trade what for better or worse was their third best left handed relief option unless they have something else working. It’s certainly not worth wasting a spot on Ian Anderson to play mop up man.

Agreed. That's why I think there is something else in the works. Would be awesome to a Robertson signing. I would bet it's more likely a smaller trade though.

I really don’t understand the Perdomo deal. Bowman has been saying they could put him on the IL to extend his TJ recovery for a couple weeks into the season. His velo was also going up as spring went on. Why not just IL him and keep him instead of giving him away for nothing?

Just seems weird they kept him on the 40-man for basically 17 months just to abruptly give up on him when he was looking better, especially when there was an alternate route to keep him into the season.

For a team that’s used to gaming the system you mentioned above- I agree. Odd deal

I wouldn't expect the Perdomo trade to indicate anything else is coming. They've been cheaping out all offseason.

We also re-assigned Jake Diekman. Even though, he wasn't having a great spring, our LHP BP options on the 40 man are currently Bummer, Lee, and Dodd. I can't imagine AA will stick with that group. I'm not saying it's gonna be a big name, but I think we bring in at least 1 LHP before opening day.

this doesn't make sense.. Perdomo was making nothing. It has nothing to do with money.

I too don't know why they gave him away. I feel there are other guys they could DFA and pass through the waiver process to add a spot on the 40 man.
