Curios to see what Cheff comes up with on SS from yesterday

SSS of course

FA threw it 21 times avg 95.5 velo (down .5) avg spin 2338 (up 75), vert break 14 (up .6), horz break arm 7 (up 1.3) this was one of his worst pitches last year, but last nights version is moving it closer to an average pitch which is scary with his arsenal. had 7 swings and 2 whiffs on 21 pitches.. had the loudest contact against as well.

Curve threw 17 times avg 75.8 velo (down from 80.6) spin 2321 (about same) vert break 7 (about the same) horz break 8 (up about 1) this is also one of his below avg pitch and it is probably about the same.. The spin rate varies on this pitch and the velo drop is interesting. it had 8 swings and 5 whiffs on it, so he mixed it in when the Stankees were not expecting it.. if he threw it in the zone they made contact.. when he places it out of the zone, they can barely touch it if they swung.

cutter threw 15 times avg 93 velo (same) spin 2372 (same) vert break 14 (up from 9.8) horz break glv side 2 (up from 1.4) if that movement stays consistent, then this goes from an average pitch to a weapon.. only put in play once and ext velo was 36.. yes 36 mph.. 3 whiffs in 7 swings and 3 called strikes. This becomes a very interesting pitch to track now..

slider (his best pitch from last year) threw it 14 times avg velo 86.6 (down from 87.3) vert break 40 (up from 38.8) hort break glv 3 (down from 3.9) this is still a nasty pitch and almost plays like a split finger but breaks glv side versus arm for the split. This pitch wasn't hit hard at all.. had 12 swings and 8 whiffs.. Still a plus plus pitch

splitter threw 10 times avg velo 85.3 (up from 84.5) vert break 39 (up from 37.5) horz break arm 7 (down from 9.2).. pitch is still a plus plus pitch with that movement profile. it was better last year, but again 10 pitches. 7 swings with 2 whiffs.. 2 called strikes.

1 sinker...

Basically he has a deep arsenal, 2 plus plus pitches and 3 average or just below average pitches that he can command well. If any of the 3 avg keep the upticks they had last night then, along with his command.. then he is most certainly a TOR starter.

Schwelly is definitely a quantity over quality stuff guy, but his location and execution seems to be what drives his success. He gets the FA up when he needs it, and buries the breaking stuff when appropriate. Sale and Strider rely on 1-2 absolutely disgusting pitches that are truly elite, and that’s why they are a notch above him.

The lineup looks remarkable better with a .350+ OBP at the top of it rather than Ozzie “pull the ball down the RF line at all costs” Albies.

I can only watch on game day right now, but it looks like the ump is having a rough outing. Lots of strikes being called balls

Yay, we are now treated with dinosaur rants from chipper. I wish the announcers would stop leading interviews in the direction of telling fans why baseball sucks nowadays.

Nice, they corrected course during the commercial break and asked questions that elicited responses that were actually entertaining. Well done production crew.

I wouldn't trust gameday location.. the hit by pitch showed it was in the right handed box to a left handed hitter. riddle me that batman..

Has there been anyone with quantity, quality and execution? Smoltz?

It's a major league deal, too. Maybe the last year has jaded me too much, but can we get a wellness check on Acuña just to be safe?
