2025 Spring Training Thread

If you squint you can picture a Kelenic plus AJSS for Cease trade. I’d be very reluctant to trade AJSS now though because I haven’t seen his latest statcast data on stuff that the eye test says is improved from last year.

I'm sure SD would love to get a good controllable piece for Cease now in case he were to get hurt before the deadline and they get nothing. Do they have any good BP arms that might be available?

If the Braves get Cease then Holmes is back in the pen and possibly Lopez too if AJSS can hold the #5 down.

Is cease signing a close-to-team-friendly deal? 1 year of cease seems not enough for AJSS and kelenic

I tend to agree that both of those guys seems like an overpay.. but JK is just a guy to toss in to clear a spot on the 40 at this point... he basically a lottery ticket that is past his lottery ticket prime.

I know most here think that an extension shouldn't bring value, but I only send AJSS if we get an extension for cease.

It’s possible AJSS has taken a step forward that makes him too valuable for 1 year of Cease. Since we have 0 data on him from ST it’s really hard to tell, but the velocity late in the game makes it look like he may be too valuable now.

If you squint, you can also see the makings of a major-league bench now, which is nice. Still room to add another quality reliever, but the Braves to like Neris and de los Santos (even to the extent they may option Hernandez to start 2025). Meanwhile, if Smith-Shawver is indeed ready, the rotational depth looks a lot better—leaving SS as the clear place the Braves could massively upgrade.

The whole thing coming from the team about Hyers spending 1-on-1 time with Kelenic in the offseason has felt like when they were floating out that Wash was spending 1-on-1 time with Grissom.

My only problem with Kelenic is that he's so abysmal against lefties that I don't know how anyone, Hyers included, will make him more than a fourth OFer or platoon guy.

well that and he is barely average versus righties doesn't help at all.. he has a sub .300 versus right handers last year.. dude needs to go and stop wasting this team's time.

Obviously not likely, but one benefit of Baldwin being on the roster to start the season is we get a pick after the first round if he has a monster season and wins Rookie of the Year.
