For who though? What player would you call for?I never said it would happen… but I damn well would try…

All the more reason to hold a known player then, eh?
The Rays, Cards, and San Diego could all have interest. If you can get them to overpay with MLB ready or close talent that can fill holes, you do it… will that happen? Probably not… but it sounds like you’d rather just put your fingers in your ears. Teams make dumb over reaction decisions at the deadline every year. I think it’s hilarious you’re basically insinuating we are suggesting we trade Murphy for nothing when you know that’s not what we are saying. It’s pretty easy man… if no one will give us the talent, we don’t trade him… but it would be pretty dumb not to see what’s out there. For who though? What player would you call for?
I think the last two years has shown AA that he has to change course a bit and we saw it in the draft. With the amount of injuries we've had to major players and the regression of others he's gonna have to spend this offseason. We have no SS in sight to help or anybody up the middle for that fact. Richie and Caminiti are in the minors but they aren't ready yet either. Sale has 1 more year and then who knows what he'll do and what happens if Strider doesn't get his velo back? He won't be that TOR starter we thought we had. AA has been after Cease hard the past 3 years and I think he goes hard after him this offseason and I think he'll actually spend on a bat. Move Acuna to DH and actually spend on Tucker bc you have to go into the offseason assuming that Albies and Harris may be black holes next year bc that's been the trend for the past year and a half. I'm as big of an AA guy as there is around here but if he doesn't bring in another big bat this offseason and lets us start next year with Albies, Harris, and whatever else black holes there is then he needs to be fired. What in the history of this team leads you believe we will spend big money on a FA, when our largest FA contract is still BJ Upton's 5/75 million deal?
There are plenty of contenders in need of a catcher with MLB ready SS's to spare. They aren't gonna plug the holes though...
Ozzie, Olson, catcher, Riley, Profar, Acuna, and Harris are all set... write em in pen for opening day. So that leaves SS and pitching... don't see a contender trading either midseason
And if we can’t get a difference maker, he won’t be traded… no one is suggesting otherwise…If a Murphy package brought back someone to replace Ozzie, Harris, or Allen for next season that's pretty much a lock to succeed, I'd definitely do it. I just don't think we're looking to replace 2 of those though, so that leaves SS... I don't see anyone parting with an mlb ready SS
Agreed. If they can get Tucker then I'd be fine with Allen at SS on offense. AA has a full plate right now with the amount of holes he has and needing a new coaching staff. Hopefully Kranitz sticks around bc he's done an excellent with the pitching.regardless if Meth is traded, I really hope the big offseason push is for Tucker. He would provide insurance for Harris, can cover 1B to actually give Olson a day off.. then you could have a rotation of Profar/Acuna/Catcher DH'ing if Meth is kept, or OF/Olson DH'ing if they trade Meth. then grab another starting pitcher or two and one more elite pen guy.. finish with some bench help and lets roll. I would be fine with lemke jr at short if the other hitters are hitting. No need to spend 20 million more on a quality shortstop.
He would have gotten more on the open market imo. Catchers that can be that good on both sides of the ball are hard to come by and that's why state is saying what he is. And he isn't wrong.I really think we're underestimating the cost of a premium catcher in today's game. I don't think we'd get a haul since there's money tied to him, but it's a team-friendly deal and he's a very valuable catcher.
Which SS could we acquire at the break?Murphy would have peak trade value if the Braves covered his 2025 salary either by sending cash or by taking some dead 2025 money in return. There are MLB ready SS prospects that could be plugged into the lineup either immediately, or opening day 2026, or a couple months into 2026 with Allen holding down the position until they are ready.
Literally nobody is suggesting AA trade Murphy for 5 kids in A ball who may contribute in 2028.
Like many have said it could be at the break or in the offseason. No one knows who is available or who may be willing to overpay.Which SS could we acquire at the break?
It would have to be a top 20 prospect, so that basically leaves Williams, de vries, wetherholt/winn. De vries isn't ready, but I'd do it anyway... doubt padres would. Williams strikes out too much for my taste. I would do it for wetherholt, but cards probably rather keep him. Doubt they'd trade Winn right now.Like many have said it could be at the break or in the offseason. No one knows who is available or who may be willing to overpay.
The Rays Carson Williams is pretty close to fair value for Murphy. Top 25 overall prospect, but he's got some swing and miss that keeps him being an elite prospect.Which SS could we acquire at the break?
I would say Baldwin or Murph could produce close to, if not over, 4 wins next year alone. only keep Murph if the package is not right. Like I said before, there is a world that allows you to have Murph/OF DH with a competent manager.I certainly see why it makes sense to trade Murphy, but man, it's hard for me to break up what's almost certainly 4 FWAR in 2026 even if one gets hurt.
