2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Going to the Rockies.

LHP Griffin Helling was the Yankees' 6th-round pick in 2024 out of LSU and currently in High-A. Yankees' 6th-ranked prospect with a 45 value.

RHP Josh Grosz was Yankees' 11th-round pick in 2023 out of East Carolina and is also pitching in High-A. He was the Yankees' 21st-ranked prospect with a 40 value.

Question for all of us is how does Ozuna measure up to McMahon in terms of value?

Depends on who's covering the salary I guess since McMahon is signed on for several more years. But a healthy Ozuna is the better player by a bit. McMahon is more comparable as the Nick Allen of 3B. He's a slick defender but never been anything but a below average hitter.

Ozuna's value is up in the air because who knows if he's healthy or not. But if he was I suspect he'd get a 45 FV player in return.

Yankees are picking up the entire salary. McMahon is signed through 2027. He's getting paid $12 MM this year and is scheduled to get $16 MM in 2026 and $16 MM in 2027. McMahon's offensive value appears to be almost exclusively in his power numbers. Going to a lower altitude may dull that some, but the current Yankee stadium (as in the case of the original) does favor LH power hitters although McMahon appears to spread the ball around.

I think the Braves locked themselves into a roster that was near the limit of their spending power and were fairly dependent on that roster staying healthy and performing.

They had pretty outrageously bad luck with that.

Whether they could have done better with marginal filler or not is probably besides the point. But sure they could have done better. But, it was a market with one team buying everything too.

But locking the team into the core may well have been the biggest miscalculation. But it's hard to really know in advance. And staying continuously on top for ten years is not really how these things usually work.
