2025 Trade Deadline Thread

Baez actually isn't playing SS much anymore, so he isn't blocking McGonigle. He's mostly playing CF now.

And Baez' rebound seems likely to be short lived. He isn't doing anything drastically better than previous seasons in Detroit. And he has a .665 OPS ever since his 2 homer game on 5/13 that saw his OPS peak at .870.

Iglesias, Ozuna, Pierce Johnson, a Murphy trade would be over 50 million off the books and with resetting the tax would be closer to 100 million to spend. If you got say Wetherholt from the Cards that would leave you enough to get Cease and Helsley and have like 50 million to fill the other holes with quality backups and go after Schwarber or somebody else.

Who are these contenders that need a catcher? And what players do they have that are MLB ready now, or will be at the start of 2026?

Eeveryone claiming it's pointless to trade Murphy for prospects is correct.

The Rays could use a boost at C and have Carson Williams, a SS and their top prospect at AAA. Not crazy about his K rate but he's supposed to be a gold glove quality SS and elite defense and his power would play at SS.

I don't think we end up trading Murphy but there are potential matches. AA is also no stranger to three way deals. Maybe there's a team that needs a catcher who can ship prospects to a third team to get us a piece for next year.

St Louis top prospect is Whetherholt and he's in AAA and will be ready at some point this year or to start right out of ST and they need a C bad since moving Contreras to 1b. I doubt they trade Wynn their starting SS while they are competing for a WC spot.

Yanks, Rays, Pads, Cards, Giants, Mets (unlikely), and Astros for sure. Potentially AZ and Texas.

Have you heard of the concept of a 3 way trade?

It's literally what happened to bring Murphy here.

The Cards are the perfect fit just bc they have a really good MLB SS and their top prospect is a SS so they would be trading from a strength to fill a need.
