2025 Trade Deadline Thread

I'm still holding out hope that somebody takes Bummer. That 9.5 million in the offseason would be nice.
I’d like to see them move Johnson as well (plus Iglesias, obviously). Try to get back young, cheap, AA-level guys with reliever stuff.

I may be in the minority (and I certainly hope what I lay out isn't going to be the case), but I don't think Anthopoulos is going to make any moves. He's a stubborn guy and I see him sticking with things as they are. I mean, they aren't eliminated yet.

That would be colossally stupid and a huge mistake. At that point I think everyone turns on him

It looks like the AA 2013 Toronto Blue Jays were closest in record at the trade deadline (49-57 record) as the Braves are now. This is what AI had to say:

In July 2013, the Toronto Blue Jays did not make any trades before the non-waiver trade deadline, choosing instead to "stay the course" with their existing roster

  • Betting on the future: Despite the struggles, general manager Alex Anthopoulos likely hoped for a turnaround in 2014, given that many of their key players were still under contract beyond 2013.

The situation is a little different because of some of the guys currently on the roster with expiring contracts, but I think the main point still stands. Anthopoulos built this ship and he's not going to beach it.

Hopefully AA learned his lesson there. Granted the Jays went their first of 2 straight ALCS's a couple years later, but hindsight shows they probably should have sold high on some players. Most notably, Colby Rasmus was at peak value and would have netted a huge prospect haul at just 26 years old and the ability to play CF. He had 1.5 years remaining on his contract, so AA would have likely had a decent idea if he was likely to re-sign or not. Casey Jansen and Mark Buehrle also would have brought back some nice pieces.

Sean Murphy is our Colby Rasmus. He should absolutely be traded at his peak value, especially since he have more than an adequate replacement in Baldwin.
