2026 ST Thread

I imagine like Curacao of the late 90s with Druw that Venezula has a ton of Braves fans due to Acuna

I bet you’re right!

I mean hell, I’m a Venezuela fan because of him…..

And I used to go do a lot of scuba diving way back then and went to Bonaire and Curaçao frequently - and it seemed like every little kid wore Braves caps….

This is such a bizarre comparison.

The 2012 Phillies—the year they fell off—didn’t have a single member of their offensive core who wasn’t old as balls. Ruiz/Howard/Utley/Rollins/Victorino had an average age of 32.4. The conversation was explicitly “how long can this OLD ASS TEAM hang together.” (link)

The only member of our offensive core who is even in his 30s is Olson. We have a future HOF superstar entering his age 28 season. We have two recent ROYs entering their age 25 seasons. This is a complete apples to eggplants comparison.
This is a reasonable point.

I mean you can make a lot of sexy charts over a 2 game span.. But it is hard for me to believe that there are 100 better players in the minors that are as good as this kid. These evaluators are putting way too much stock on his disastrous stint in the Bigs.

You may want to take a moment and read what I actually wrote. I said at the end of the window, not when the window was closed. This team is very clearly on the downslope of the contention window. I very clearly said those conversions start 1-2 years from now…not now.

Pull your head out of your ass and give up trying to pull off the “gotcha” moment.
2 years from this very minute, nearly all of our core will be still be younger than 31. Only Sale, Olson, and Ozzie will be older than 31, if you still consider Ozzie as part of our "core." And Ozzie isn't even under contract 2 years from now. Nacho, Miller, Lodise, Dixon, etc might end up replacing him before then.

In regards to typical aging curves, these players should still be in their "primes" and under contract in 2028: RA, Riley, Drake, Harris, Strider, Schwelly, Waldrep and AJSS. This doesn't count any prospects we might develop into above average major league players during this time.

Now whether or not they would actually be playing at peak levels is certainly a valid argument to make given all the guys I listed have fairly significant injury and/or performance issues. But technically, they will all still be in their primes relative to typical aging curves.
