In the spirit of the 2024 Field thread (and as a thread of hope for our recently depressed Dem and left leaning posters), dark and dreary nights are a great time to look forward to the dawn. Who do we think runs?
Harris is done as a politician. She might go back to Cali and get back involved in the Senate/Congress, but her political future is effectively done. Ditto for Tim Walz, who we all will struggle to remember his name 4 years from now. So who might the Dems run?
Shapiro seems like the obvious choice right now. Popular Governor of a key swing state. More centrist leaning. Relatively young at 55 years old. Gavin Newsome will undoubtedly run, but his policy history is a mess and won't play on the national level. Gretchen Whitmer is a possibility. Roy Coope is another. Pete Buttigeg will also run, but again won't be very popular. Buttigeg is basically the Democrat version of Marco Rubio. Andy Beshear is an up and comer in the Dem party and was bandied about as Kamala's running mate before Walz was selected.
On the Republican side, Vance is the clear favorite right now. And he's quickly gaining more popularity. I expect nearly all of the 2024 primary candidates to return, with the exception of Christy and Pence. I would also expect Youngkin and Abbot to enter the ring. I also envision we see the return of Marco Rubio.
