2028 Field

In the spirit of the 2024 Field thread (and as a thread of hope for our recently depressed Dem and left leaning posters), dark and dreary nights are a great time to look forward to the dawn. Who do we think runs?

Harris is done as a politician. She might go back to Cali and get back involved in the Senate/Congress, but her political future is effectively done. Ditto for Tim Walz, who we all will struggle to remember his name 4 years from now. So who might the Dems run?

Shapiro seems like the obvious choice right now. Popular Governor of a key swing state. More centrist leaning. Relatively young at 55 years old. Gavin Newsome will undoubtedly run, but his policy history is a mess and won't play on the national level. Gretchen Whitmer is a possibility. Roy Coope is another. Pete Buttigeg will also run, but again won't be very popular. Buttigeg is basically the Democrat version of Marco Rubio. Andy Beshear is an up and comer in the Dem party and was bandied about as Kamala's running mate before Walz was selected.

On the Republican side, Vance is the clear favorite right now. And he's quickly gaining more popularity. I expect nearly all of the 2024 primary candidates to return, with the exception of Christy and Pence. I would also expect Youngkin and Abbot to enter the ring. I also envision we see the return of Marco Rubio.

They are a rudderless ship right now and all their current 'ready' candidates are tarred with the woke stench.

Its going to be a difficult climate nationally for quite some time for a Democrat.

The cupboard is not completely bare for the Dems. But they need to start early in driving up popularity and interest in their top candidates, and stop just hoping the rest of America hates MAGA so much that they will turn out in droves to beat them.

The current electorate will not be forgiving to people who have a long record or accepting and pushing woke policies.

I think the Dems will run a popular progressive populist candidate. I suspect we’ll see a lot of infighting over the next year in D and some voice will emerge from that.

I'm gonna throw this name out there for either Republicans or Dems since I don't fully know his political stance: Dwayne the Rock Johnson. The People's POTUS.

Aaron Rodgers 2028 odds opened at 30-1. Which is extra hilarious given the Jets are 75-1 to win the Super Bowl.

If the Democrats want to win run Jon Stewart. Honestly he was the perfect candidate for 2024 vs Trump. He probably wouldn't do it though.
