This is the most important thing, huh?
Yes, being able to consistently make contact with the baseball is the most important thing. Early in the season (small sample) the teams that are doing that are the ones that are winning.
This is the most important thing, huh?
We have the 3rd lowest K% in MLB, behind the Tigers and the Royals. All 3 teams are 5-0
It means a lot. We don't even have good hitters at this point and still by just making contact we are winning.
This is the truth, right now. It's refreshing to go on a little streak without one or two players carrying the team. This is just about timely hitting and good pitching. Only THREE players are not performing well with RISP. KJ, Maybin, and Peterson.
I've been enjoying the hell out of this opening week. Huge for the organization and fanbase to get off to a good start. I'm a worrier by nature though, so indulge me in my low-sample-size list of concerns . . .
- Our top 3 RPs have been great, and they figure to be solid if healthy. After that, I fear our luck will run out soon. Jaime is Jaime, and I think the league will adjust to Cunniff. We can only hide McKirahan for so long.
- I've been really happy with how Jace looks on defense. At the plate vs LHP though, he looks really overmatched. This situation may turn into a straight platoon.
- Markakis is likely still building strength, but I'm nervous about the lack of power in his bat. I think he may be headed for a 0.350ish SLG% this season.
- We're currently 6th in MLB in BABIP. I don't think we have good enough baseball players to sustain this for long.
If our pitching can keep dominating like it has, and I don't see why it can't, then we can probably put together enough offense like we have to scrape out some wins. I really don't see us as more than a .500 team though. Who knows though, it's interesting to see how much hitting has been down around the league so far.
I agree on the bullpen, top guys are good, but McKirahan hasnt pitched yet, Jaime welp..... I like Cody.
I'd give all 3 of JJ, Grilli, Avilan the day off today but Fredi wont.
Grilli already had a day off. He's fine.
If we lose today, Heyward, you should get a ban.
Because i posted lineups for Heywood to post on the gamethread today?
And says the guy posting pics of Heyward in a Cards uni and says he'll go to the Nats trolling everyone.
If Roger can work his magic with Cahil then I think the whole perception of the season changes. Lets not forget that 3 years ago people were feeling that Cahil could be a potentil TOR type pitcher. Arizona was not a good spot for him.
Anyone that said this said it based soley in ERA
