4/11/15 GDT Peterson Returns To Lineup

You know GF, the next thing you say positive about the Braves or any Braves player will be your first. I don't get you at all.

That's not true. He said we made some mediocre trades and a few days back he said Freeman was a "fantastic hitter " which is vastly improved from him being a good or mediocre hitter just last season when he was evaluating the lineup.

I've been enjoying the hell out of this opening week. Huge for the organization and fanbase to get off to a good start. I'm a worrier by nature though, so indulge me in my low-sample-size list of concerns . . .

- Our top 3 RPs have been great, and they figure to be solid if healthy. After that, I fear our luck will run out soon. Jaime is Jaime, and I think the league will adjust to Cunniff. We can only hide McKirahan for so long.
- I've been really happy with how Jace looks on defense. At the plate vs LHP though, he looks really overmatched. This situation may turn into a straight platoon.
- Markakis is likely still building strength, but I'm nervous about the lack of power in his bat. I think he may be headed for a 0.350ish SLG% this season.
- We're currently 6th in MLB in BABIP. I don't think we have good enough baseball players to sustain this for long.

I agree with all of the above, both praise and concerns. I'm not particularly worried about the bullpen, but I also know that they're not this good, collectively.

I've been saying this all week, and it's probably my delivery, but people have been interpreting it as criticism, not observation. You've put it a little more constructively. I'm pleased with his approach and gratified by the couple of times he was able to put bat to ball when the situation dictated it, but the guy is not hitting the ball with authority at all. Last night's 1B was a lonely beacon.

Right now we're in the top handful of teams in BA and OPS, and I don't see that continuing. However, I'll repeat that the group we have is full of guys who can benefit from Seitzer's school of thought, and be the best they can be if they apply it. Seitzer himself said that his job was 90% psychological, and right now everyone seems to be buying in.

The other thing I like about the composition of the team—the upside of having a bunch of spare parts, if you will—is that we're going to be mixing and matching in multiple positions, and we've got guys who seem to prepared, from an ego standpoint, to do that.

Grilli already had a day off. He's fine.

Figure Johnson and Cunniff to have the day off after last night. Avilan should also. Maybe the mystery lefty who is rumored to be part of the bullpen will see the light of day today.

Better question, for people who have MLBTV, is it worth it?

If you have a good internet connection, yes.

I like the fact that I can watch on my tv, laptop, tablet or phone. You can share with friends/family.

Don't like the blank screen during commercials, actually would rather watch commercials.
