4/25 GDT vs Red Sox: LOL Freddy

I just hate to see bad baseball by has been baseball players. If we are going to tank, let your young guys come up and play. Glavine smoltz and Avery got their heads bashed in before becoming great pitchers.

Smoltz actually had a good rookie year and Avery only had a bad partial season in 1990 before winning 18 games in '91. Glavine certainly got bashed in pretty good his first few years though losing 17 games one year. Further, we're already seeing that with the pitching staff including the recent call up of Blair reportedly to stay. There's only really room for one more and that would take removing Norris, but I can understand why they'd hold off doing so since they want to trade him later. Plus I'd not remove Chacin either way as he's been solid.

Chipper wasn't some no-doubt generational talent like Harper. He was just a #1 overall pick, just like next year's pick will be, no matter who it is. Most thought Van Poppel should be taken 1 in that draft.

There will be some really good talent in the draft, you can rest assured of that. Heck, the Astros got Correa on the cheap at #1 because he was considered not to be worthy of that high a slot.

Good points, that was partly what I was thinking.

There is no benefit to bringing guys up before they're ready. We just have to be patient and know this year will be terrible and means very little, at the major league level, for our future. It is what it is.

Yea, we should be careful bringing up players like Albies and Swanson too early when there's not much to play for anyway. Albies already skipped a league so I'd give him time in AA and then AAA before deciding. Same goes for Swanson.

It's also somewhat funny that we have posters complaining about bringing up Aaron Blair too early while simultaneously others (maybe some of the same ones) are arguing that we need to already be bringing all these young guys up.

This is not the first time this week that Fredi has let an appeal slide. He just doesn't care. It is TIME. Send the Cubs a prospect for David Ross and name him manager before the weekend. Or Eddie Perez, if you want to go on the cheap. Don't think there's a loyalty issue there.
I used this argument with Fredi and several players, but I get destroyed for saying it. I'm sorry, but I don't see a team (not everyone, but a lot of players) that cares. A lot of guys look defeated.

Didn't see the game. Can someone explain the situation in question as to why Fredito didn't challenge?

First you need to understand how obvious the challenge was. Imagine that scene in the Naked Gun where Frank is the home plate ump and he has to intentionally call the runner at home safe to prevent the queen from being assassinated.

I wanted to avoid super two on Blair and I was also arguing against "bringing all these young guys up" right now. So no inconsistency here, maybe you have someone else in mind though?

How do you even have the energy to make this argument. I envy you.

Plus there is always going to be a side saying bring them all up and a side saying don't do so. Then you got those who say bring up some and not others based on their own views of said players and/or how scouting systems rate them. Nothing new.

I didn't see the game. Can someone explain to me Fredi's latest blunder?

There was a play at second and call was out but replays showed Freeman clearly safe. Fredi didn't challenge it so two outs 1st and 3rd instead of bases loaded and one out if challenged and call rightly overturned. Fredi admit it was mistake after the game but also said not doing so was "neither here nor there..."

I wasn't directing that at you, just making an observation. It seems to indicate there are no clear answers on exactly the right time. I agree with you on not bringing everybody up right away, and I don't necessarily agree or disagree on Blair. I was fine with that one either way.
