4/29 rubber game vs Phillies

Is it me or have the umps really hurt the braves this year between balls/strikes and base calls?

My personal opinion?

The umps have never been better at calling balls and strikes, but that inaccurate k-zone gives fans the wrong impression.

I also do not see the point of these type lineups. Inciarte and Albies seem to have similar OBP potentials. Inciarte is currently the better base stealer. I think we'll eventually go Inciarte, Albies, Freddie, Acuna, Markakis. Why not go ahead and go that way now if we are making a move so soon.

Acuna is the better runner. He should hit 3rd and Freeman cleanup (as long as all works out with him).

EDIT2: Technically, the best hitter actually hits 2nd in analytically inclined lineups but I'd prefer to not do that if possible.

You want your best hitters coming to the plate the most. It's really that simple and will score more runs over the course of a season.

Inciarte just needs to be in the bottom half of the lineup. Where exactly doesn’t matter much.

Next year the Braves will have 4 above average or better hitters with Freeman, Albies, Acuna and whoever they sign for LF. As long as those 4 guys are in the top 4 spots, the exact order makes little difference.

Seems like Acuña might’ve bailed Velasquez out there, based on Gamecast.

For reference, runners have historically scored from 3rd with less than 2 outs approximately 50% of the time, even with K and HR rates increasing dramatically over the last couple decades.
