Much like the Varvaro trade, I agree that Avilan's not likely to bring back much more than a potentially younger version of himself if he's dealt. That said, there are still several very good relievers available out there (Adams, Belisle, Janssen, O'Day, K-Rod, Uehara, and even J. P. Howell if they want a third LHRP) and we've got money to spend on them, so shopping him rather than Pastornicky or Jaime does seem to make more sense since he'd at least bring something back. With Shreve and Russell already in the fold, I'd imagine that they're more interested in adding talent rather than left handed talent. Adams in particular is another guy with closing experience who certainly doesn't struggle against left handed hitters - his career line against them (.217/.284/.321/.605) is almost as good as against righties (.204/.264/.323/.587).
