5-1-16 Braves at Cubs: Fredi Getting Creative With the Lineup Edition

Looks like we're going to have to keep Mallex in this lineup even when Inciarte comes back.

I think he can be slotted into the line-up often enough to not impinge his development. LF has been kind of a revolving door so it's not like he couldn't log some time out there. Plus, he could back up in CF so we can rid ourselves of Stubbs.

Man, I love what Teheran is doing!

I believe it helped having Flowers catch him today, remember his splits with everyone but AJP? I know he did good last game with AJP but that is because he's a good pitcher not because of AJP. It still helps to get on a hot streak when you have a good catcher instead of AJP behind the plate.

That said, I hated him not getting the W today. I didn't care if they won or lost after he didn't get his much deserved first win. I thought Cervenka should've pitched the entire 8th instead of struggling JJ, but then once he was brought in and got an out I'd had him finish it and saved Viz for a clean 9th. If Fredi does my first choice we win easy, second we probably win 3-2 and Teheran still gets a W. He did neither and so after that I was like just lose it if that gets Fredi gone faster.

Hate folty will have AJ catching him since we're facing a rhp. Really wish flowers would catch Teheran, Blair, folty, and wisler. Let AJ catch chacin

Chacin says screw you man, I'm sticking with Flowers if I can. :) Seriously, if I'm a Braves pitcher I'd insist on anyone but AJP catch me.

Maybe the pitchers can all go in together to pay AJP to retire. :)

Or Markakis to another club.

They supposedly had teams interested in Markakis at the deadline last year and sounded like without paying anything to move him. So I am sure they could trade him now if they wanted, I just don't get the idea that they want to now or even at the deadline. It might take an overpay for them to do so since they seem to like him so much. My fear is they don't and by the time we're ready to challenge he starts to fade and Inciarte is already long gone via trade.

I noticed other Braves sites talking about possibly trading Teheran again after his last few strong games. My take is whatever we do with him, please keep Flowers catching him so if we do trade him his value will be high and not have to sell low. Further, if we do end up trading Teheran I would want to keep Chacin to have a veteran locked in for next year going into the off-season.

BTW, MLBTR mentions Chacin today among those who most improved his trade value with a strong April:

"Jhoulys Chacin, Braves: One of the few bright spots in a rough Braves season, Chacin has a 3.27 ERA, 9.41 K/9 and 5.75 K/BB rate through four starts and 22 innings. Chacin signed a minor league deal with Atlanta in order to rebuild his stock following two injury-plagued seasons, so while the early returns have been impressive, he’ll need his shoulder to hold up over the coming weeks and months to really put himself in line for a nice free agent contract. If Chacin keeps it up, the rebuilding Braves could move him at the trade deadline."

Speaking of Teheran, if he's traded to the Cubs I'd want a package back that includes Contreras and not Baez or Soler. Hudson on the other forum suggested Contreras and Underwood, that would be ideal IMO too. But the only way I see Teheran trade value high enough for such a return is if we start having Flowers catch him regularly instead of AJP. AJP is hurting all our pitchers trade value IMO.

Teheran did a nice addition for the Cubs. They might have been hesitant to pull the trigger for him before but that performance should have changed their mind. :Bowman:
