5/18 GDT: Schwellenbach, The Drake, and the Rested Bullpen in the Series Finale in Fenway

Love the quote... true or not, AA just took all blame off owners and put it squarely on himself. Remember this come deadline time.

He loves talking about things he “almost” did. It’s like the person who brags about almost having a career as a professional athlete, or almost invented something. Yeah, well, you didn’t so it means absolutely nothing to talk about it.
Was he asked this directly? I mean it's an odd thing to bring up during the season unless specifically asked.

Fair. I wouldn’t have a problem with it if he doesn’t come out with something like this a couple times a year. It’s eye roll inducing at this point.

I couldn’t listen to the interview, but I imagine he was asked about cutting payroll and he threw this bone out there.

I mean it's hard to give AA blame on anything here. The trade for Allen's been masterful. AJSS and Elder have shown up. Baldwin instead of TDA has really worked out. Taking some gambles and gathering more information has paid off so far

Also, I just realized that AA has a weird definition of a “done” deal. If they balked on the years, then the deal wasn’t done. Just like it wasn’t a “done” deal before Tanner Scott signed with the Dodgers.

Looking at it from the other side - maybe just maybe AA makes this bullshit up to cover for his bosses who don’t want us to know that they weren’t gonna spend another damn dime this off-season… they have a glorious profit margin going and want to protect it as long as team is good enough to win division, put a million butts in the seats, and keep the beers flowing in the battery

AA has won some and lost some, but it's hard to cast many stones at the end result.

I'm guessing that a long term deal extending well into the future that put them in tax hell probably would not have been a very good one.

Doesn't mean that some better additions around the edges might not have been wise.

the bad start was rough, but part of it was inevitable. They had major pieces injured that were not replaceable and that they would just have to wait on.

then there were additional things that were largely beyond their control. Though I guess assuming roids seems like a better idea in retrospect.

They made some good decisions not to commit to players this offseason.

Probably could have made more small moves but at the end of the day, the healthy roster will look pretty good and maybe guys were not interested as much in two month gigs dwindling to spot duty.

It likely was Scott

I saw that sweeper freeze Soto live last night. It was better than his curve

If he added another 80 gr weapon no doubt he got that much cheddar

I wonder if Yankees pitching lab will unlock a new level for him. Apparently, the Braves don’t have a pitching lab.

AA will never get a pass as long as he continues to employ the dumbest person in baseball.. He could move the man to some executive position and promote perez as a temp fill in.. anything is better than having sleepy twit in the dugout making stupid decision every single game.
