7/20 Baseball game thread

Seems like they just don't wanna burn more Shuster and Dodd options since the no shuttling rule came into effect this year.

Second time this year we have had a rookie call-up make their GDT debut and stop a slump!!
Well done sir !!!

I don’t know. Much like 99% of his other posts, his first game day thread was sad, miserable and depressing. 🤣 I am overnighting Matt some Zoloft

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports Braves RHP prospect Allan Winans will start on Saturday against the Brewers.
Nothing official from the Braves yet, but Winans has certainly pitched well enough to deserve the opportunity for a spot start, posting a stellar 2.81 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 89/25 K/BB ratio across 102 2/3 innings (18 appearances, 13 starts) this season for Triple-A Gwinnett. There’s too much risk to trust him in shallow mixed leagues, but the 27-year-old righty is certainly interesting

I did a pretty extensive write-up on Winans in the Arizona Fall League thread. Started out in the Mets' system as a 17th round pick out of Campbell (NC). Mets used him exclusively as a relief pitcher and he had good stats and advanced to AA in 2021. Braves selected him in the minor league phase of the 2021 Rule 5 draft and turned him into a starting pitcher. He got cuffed around a bit in the Arizona Fall League and I watched him pitch a game on the internet. Doesn't appear to be a hard thrower, but his control numbers throughout his career have been very good and his minor league K/9 is > 8. Curious to see how he does. Braves have had some luck (although it's sometimes abbreviated) with guys like Winans, so we'll have to see how it all works out.

3 I think. '73 Braves, '96 and '97 Rockies.

One of the weirdest Braves' teams ever. Davey Johnson, Darrell Evans, and Hank Aaron comprised the trio with 40+ HRs. Braves underperformed their Pythagorean by 7 games. Team also had Dusty Baker and Ralph Garr, but the supporting cast was pretty iffy. Carl Morton and Phil Niekro anchored the rotation. Roric Harrison (who came over with Johnson, Pat Dobson, and Johnny Oates in the Earl Williams deal) also won 11 games, but the entire pitching staff's peripherals were terrible and injuries to Ron Reed and Gary Gentry really hurt. The late Danny Frisella (who had come over with Gentry from the Mets in the Felix Millan deal) was the closer for the most part, but the bullpen was a bit of a disaster area.

Max last rehab start pushed back to the DH today. If all looks good, he would return next week for the Sox series.
