8/13/18 DH GAME THREAD vs MARLINS

going with the slider more in the second inning and getting it over for strikes...i like that he has both a slider and curve

Really impressive to get out of that with only 1 run given up. Got a bit unlucky on the Riddle hit, but he's gotta lock in and not walk leadoff hitters.

vs LHH
93 FA, just outside
83 CH?, just outside
93 FA, way outside
94 FA, outside

vs LHH
93 FA, outside corner
75 CU, inside corner, belt high, fouled off
76 CU, up and away, fouled off
94 FA, up
76 CU, away, blooped into LF

vs RHH
94 FA, outside corner, belt high, ripped into RCF gap

vs LHH
87 CH?, away, fouled off
78 CU, middle/middle, taken (luckily)
77 CU, middle/down, fouled off
95 FA, up and away, fouled off
77 CU, away, noncompetitive pitch
88 CH?, away, fly out to short LF

vs RHH
76 CU, outside corner, middle, taken
76 CU, inside corner, middle, taken
78 CU, down, swing and miss, his first well placed CU

vs LHH (pitcher)
95 FA, up/away, fouled off
76 CU, outside corner, middle
78 CU, outside
95 FA, way up, noncompetitive pitch
77 CU, low outside corner, excellent pitch, Touki robbed on the call
96 FA, down the pipe

Touki seems to have little control of the CU, and arm side FA control seems to be iffy as well.

The CH doesn't appear to be something he can use as a weapon yet.

Don Sutton loves touki. Praising him big time. Says 3 different curve balls... what the curve look like?

idk about 3 different curves, but he's throwing a curve and a slider. seemed to be having trouble getting the curve over to start the 2nd, the slider (slurve? idk) was looking good, tho. getting it over for strikes. curve started to look better as the inning went on as well.

Seems to be able top control the breaking ball really well. Can throw it for a strike, or start it in the strike zone and break it out.

are you not seeing a slider/slurve that's different from his regular curve?

I'm seeing slightly different shapes based on slightly different arm angles. The velocity has been right around 76-77, which tells me it's the same pitch.

And he can't control them at all.

I would suggest picking an arm angle and learning to locate it.

I have only seen 3 well located CUs so far. The rest have been either balls or crushable.

His curve is what chef was saying. Same speed. Looks like arm angle determines how it bites. He throws his cut fastball more than I realized.

To early to mention he's current throwing a perfect game?

Over a 20 year career, he's on pace to throw for 5760 innings with a 0.00 ERA, no walks or hits allowed, and no K's either. Pretty impressive if he maintains that pace. I think he's got the potential.

pretty poor form for a veteran poster like you to mention a perfect game while in progress

Sorry guys. I take full responsibility for Touki's performance. Really thought he had a chance to be something special. A real top of the rotation pitcher. Guess I was wrong.

I think touki needs to establish his fastball right now. Guys are not biting on his curve because he is not commanding the fastball. He has to show them that
