8/13/18 DH GAME THREAD vs MARLINS

I think touki needs to establish his fastball right now. Guys are not biting on his curve because he is not commanding the fastball. He has to show them that

they may not be biting because he hasn't shown the ability to locate it. like i said earlier i feel they were sitting on his fastball in the 2nd.

vs LHH (pitcher)
95 FA, up/away, fouled off
76 CU, outside corner, middle
78 CU, outside
95 FA, way up, noncompetitive pitch
77 CU, low outside corner, excellent pitch, Touki robbed on the call
96 FA, down the pipe

Touki seems to have little control of the CU, and arm side FA control seems to be iffy as well.

The CH doesn't appear to be something he can use as a weapon yet.

I think that's reading too much. Maybe that is him today in his first innings.

The reports from the minor league scouts were that he was still dialing in the control and command but it was pretty dang good. Really good reports on the change up.

I wouldn't look for anything but the fastball with that nasty CB. Show me you can throw three for a strike or I'm letting that thing go.

At Bat app says splitter. Whatever it is, he's getting a lot more whiffs on it this inning.

It is coming in as a mid 80s pitch. I think it is a change. However his grip was split. So maybe. I just didn’t see the vertical drop like a true splitter.

78 CU, down and in, 4th well located CU

He looks like a guy with typical command for a 22 year old.

I have little doubt he can tighten it up. I think I would have him pick a single arm angle and stick to it though.

Looks like the split at least has some serious potential. As we all knew, he has legit stuff with command issues. Ceiling is still off the charts.

"Off the charts" hyperbole aside, he looks to have a 55+ FA, 60+ CU, and a CH/FS that looks to flash at least 50.

Pair that arsenal with 45 command and we are looking at a #3/#4 right now. Tweak that command up to 50 and it's a legit #3. If the command gets to 60 before the stuff starts declining he is a legit #2 with arguments about being an Ace.
