8-23-13 Braves at Cards

#Braves Medlen after being taken out after 78 pitches: "I don't know what type of mentality we're trying to create among our starters."

Makes you wonder what ISN'T being said, if this is what someone like Medlen says to the media...

Looking forward to a new manager.

You're right, Fredi is doing such a crappy job this year, we should be expecting much better than just the best record in the majors.

Quit being so blind. This isn't the first time something like this has happened.

Cards players vs Braves players in terms of fWAR

C - Molina 4.9 Mac 2.7

1B - Craig 2.4 Freeman 3.1

2B - Carpenter 5.9 Uggla 0.9

3B - Freese 0.0 Johnson 2.4

SS - Kozma -0.2 Simmons 3.7

Lf - Holliday 2.5 Justin 3.1

CF - jay 1.2 Bossman -0.7

RF - Beltran 2.1 Heyward 2.9

So basically they have us at C, 2B, and CF. When we know that our CF is having far and away his worst season, considering the lowest fWAR he produced before this year was 2.1 a number Jay maynot best this year. So normal year they have us beat at 2B and C, maybe 3B since Freese in the past was much better and Johnson in the past was much worsee. But even with that tradeoff we are clearly a much better team in terms of position players without even considering age and cliffs and the sort.

That's not really a fair way to compare the teams though. When you actually add up the WAR of each position player for each team then you get the Cards at 18.8 and the Braves at 18.1. So the Card's position players have an 18.8 WAR and the Braves are at 18.2. You can't discount the wide difference between Carpenter and Uggla for example. Only stating that the Card's have us beat at the 2nd base position fails to paint the entire picture of how much better the Cards are at that position than we are.

Fredi's performance has nothing to do with Bobby Cox.

There's no argument here, if you're never going to give credit to the manager for anything, it's obvious you have a vendetta against him. I'm not sure how you could prove we have a worse manager than any other team in the league, especially seeing as how we have the best record with a mid level payroll.

The discussion was about every Cardinal player being better than the Braves. Which isn't the case. Also Cards have 8 players with over 100 games and 400 PA Braves are at 5 and 6. Maybe that has an effect on WAR since the Braves have missed a ton of PT from Mac, Heyward, and the freak suckage of Bossman.

I give him credit when he deserves it. It has happened several times. There is a problem, and it is starting to show.

Some of you are completely hilarious. I see Medlen hung another ****ing change-up tonight and Wainright was spectacular. Braves are in desperate need of a lift mentally more than anything else. I think I might need a couple days off. Go Braves. Let's try not to get swept!

Maybe that's what you were talking about earlier, but I was replying to this statement you made.

Medlen can pitch longer into games when he isn't handing the lead right back to the opposition. Maybe an occasional strikeout would go a long ways as well.

And I agree with that. You think that Bossman will be a -0.7 WAR player every year? Only players we're at risk of regressing are Simmons (because of unbelievable defensive values though he should improve offensively to counter any potential slippage) and Johnson who'll fall some but not a ton. Uggla should be better than he has been this year, Bossman should be way better, and we have a ton of missed time from Jason and Mac who are arguably our 2 best players. Only top card I believe to miss a healthy chunk of time is Holliday.

OMG Charlie Morton got pulled in the 8th, he only had 83 pitches and given up one run. Horrible manager on those Pirates....
