9/20 GDT mets part 2

2017 is dog and pony show. They might get good enough to finish .500. But Kemp, Markais, Flowers even McCann should he come in are not part of the long term solution. To progress from .500 you have to have answers as to where that progress comes from.

They don't have to be part of the long term solution. I think the Braves prefer spending the money on Kemp and maybe being .500 at best that than going with someone like Francoeur in LF all year and winning as few games as possible. There isn't going to be a point in time where the Braves are constant bottom dwellers then magically all the prospects are ready along with great FA acquisitions. Incremental improvement is what's going to happen. And that is with mixing veterans and young guys even if the Vets aren't long term solutions.

You are right that the prospects won't arrive all at one time but they should come in waves.

It's a matter of timing to me. I think the majority of the closest prospects have shown that they are likely a year or so away: Newcomb, Sims, Weigel, Povse, Albies (elbow), Peterson, Ruiz, etc. The only real prospect that I think you can count on as having any kind of early impact in Atlanta is Swanson. So, that means that the majority of the help for 2017 has to come from outside and the FA class is one of the worst in memory.

What I really don't want to see is ill-advised contracts given to FA (or acquired through trade) that are win now moves that will hamper the team in 2018 and beyond.

I don't think you will see either. I think you'll see either Kemp like deals are short term pitching deals for average starters.

In his past 20 games, #Braves 3B Adonis Garcia has hit .326 (30-for-92) w/ 7 doubles, 3 homers, 17 RBIs, .361 OBP and .500 slug%

funny, I thought he was regressing back to his normal ~700 OPS

Deals like trading for Kemp and McCann or signing free agents without qualifying offers allow us to improve without affecting the team's future financial flexibility much. They hurt the future only to the extent that the record in 2017 would be worse if we ran out a bunch of replacement level players.

I remember when I was told that Adonis wouldn't hit double digit HRs because he never sniffed it in the minors. Good times.
