MLB Network just showed Freddie Freeman talking about Fernandez. Right after that, their ballpark cam at Marlins Park showed Dee Gordon behind the pitchers mound that had 16 on it. Gordon was crouched down behind the mound. Just a difficult sight.
Thought this was fake at first. So numbing. All I can think about is Joe critical of the Marlins decision to push his start back last night. Have any details been released about what exactly happened?? As a fan I loved beating the guy because he loved beating the Braves. It was a healthy sports rivalry, the kind that there are not many left. He will be missed. God be with his family and friends.
I don't think it's hyperbole to say this will go down as one of the great sports tragedies of our lifetimes when you consider the context of his story, his personality, and his off the charts talent.
Strange to think that just a couple Wednesdays ago, he was center of a near-brawl with the Braves after he had a fastball thrown at his head after he had hit Markakis. I can still hear Harold Reynolds saying you don't throw at a guy's head, you're talking about his livelihood and his life.
People please, wear seat belts when driving, wear helmets on motorcycles, wear life jackets on boats. We do not need to hear tragedies like this that can be avoided if we do the necessary steps to preserve life.
