While 30+ ft/s is certainly 80 grade speed, we are only seeing the ones commentators want to showcase...the best ones. This is not an apples to apples comparison when talking about the average sprint speed of other players with more data collected for them.
When he has enough sprint events to have the same average that's calculated for every other player, we will have his sprint speed. Then we can compare apples to apples. It's looking like that 60 grade speed may have been a little conservative so far though.
There's no need to rush to conclusions and pimp Acuna even more...the hype is already at 9 of 10.

Yeah I agree with this. I just didn't expect this type of speed, but you are right that there are likely other events that will bring his average down a bit.
I missed his first HR live.![]()
Not even going to bother reading through the pages of you guys circle jerking.
Jason Heyward started his career off with a bang too and overall had a solid rookie campaign.
Maybe, maybe not. I find it unlikely the entire scouting community missed 80 Grade speed, but it could certainly be better than 60.
We will know for sure soon enough.
Regardless of his speed grade (or the inevitable slump that is coming), it's clear he's a great player.
If you have 2 sprints in your first 2 games that are 30+ f/s, I think it's safe to say your speed grade is higher than 60.
They don't have Statcast data in the minors, do they? So it's mostly just observation? Seems like they could hang a 'plus' grade on a guy who is actually elite. And FG had him at 60, but others had him at 70.

If you lower the minimum to 5, Acuna's sprint speed is now listed as 28.3.
That is an apples to apples comparison (though still maybe a bit of a SSS) to the other values we use to grade player speed rather than cherry picking the best numbers to splash on a hype graphic.
28.3 is roughly Grade 60 speed. It is not the ~30 value we see from 80 grade guys like Buxton, Turner, Hamilton and Gordon.
Several Braves are faster than Acuna...
LAdams 29.6
Bourjos 29.3
Swanson 29.1
Albies 29.0
I have no doubt this will continue to be debated ignorantly though.

is this not a small enough sample to where another ~30 could raise it tho?
Sure, and another 27 could lower it. His sprint speed is calculated exactly the same way as everyone else.
He's a great player with good speed. Why does this board insist on making him a great player with elite speed?
I realize folks want to turn the Acuna hype up to 11, but come on.
My hype is 13
See what I did there.
