Acuna called up

"I want to be like Mike Trout. I want to be at that level. I want to be great. I want to get to the big leagues, stay in the big leagues and play for a lot of years. Everything that comes with it. Be an All-Star, win championships, all that."

Has any player ever thought any differently?

Just once I'd like to see a player say, "You know, I don't really care if I play at the MLB level. If I get there, I'd be happy with just sitting on the bench for a losing team, collect about 18 career PAs, and fade away into oblivion so I can get started on my used car salesman career".

How many actually have the talent to match the desire? Acuna COULD be one of the very few

Ronald Acuna Jr is 20 years and 128 days old.

The last five starting outfielders to make their MLB debut at a younger age:
Bryce Harper, 2012
Mike Trout, 2011
Miguel Cabrera, 2003
Andruw Jones, 1996
Ken Griffey Jr., 1989

I just think the "he loves to play the game" story lines are amusing.

There will be no shortage of Acuna hype for the next few days...unless he gets off to a slow start, of course.

A slow start will send this board into a melt down over how he was rushed, isn't mentally ready for the MLB, and all sorts of other derrrpalytics.
