2018 first half OPS: .938 (16 HRs)

2018 second half OPS: .827 (7 HRs)

Maybe. But Acuna is going to be one of the future faces of baseball. He needs the added exposure.

There are definitely more players who struggle after the HR derby compared to the first half than don't, but I actually don't believe it's the derby. I think it's that more of those players had incredible first half to get there that were actually above their usual level, and they regressed in the second half. If I'm right, you'd see a similar effect among all All-Stars, not just derby participants. Also if I'm right, 2018 Nick Markakis is a perfect example of the non-Derby All-Star returning to form.

I'd also rather see Riley. I remember Acuna coming in second in a minor league derby. I actually hope he shows well but barely loses in the first round.

For me it is the non rest. Not that one event is a big deal. But all the meetings and other commitments that go along with the hoopla. I would prefer none of our guys were even in the game.
