Alberto Callaspo Possibly Being Traded

Fredi running his mouth after the game was inexcusable. I think it shows that there's a rift between Fredi and Hart as some writers have alleged. Managers almost never come right out and say they're trying to trade someone still on the roster absent some extraordinary circumstance. But Fredi seems to have gotten a little butt hurt from being told to pull Callaspo from the lineup and from the front office trying to trade one of his favorite players so he didn't feel the need to keep his mouth shut.

This could turn into a bad situation. Fredi enjoys the support of JS and Cox at this point and both those guys have a lot of pull in this organization but little stunts like that will see Fredi's support erode quickly.

As for Callaspo, good riddance. I didn't like the move when we made it. Callaspo had been in sharp decline for two straight seasons. He was on the wrong side of 30 so his decline was likely age related and not something that could be easily fixed. Giving him $3 million guaranteed with another million in incentives was, while not a ton of money, way overpaying for Callaspo at this point. If I was the GM I'd have released him the second he showed up for Spring Training overweight and out of shape.

Personally, I don't understand why another team would want to take him on. Callaspo can't hit and is, at best, an average fielder at this point. There's no shortage of slick fielding infielders who could give you excellent defense with Mendoza line hitting. The only reason Callaspo rates a $3 million contract while those guys languish in AAA is because Callaspo was a decent major leaguer for a couple years with the Angels. Unfortunately those days are gone and never coming back.

We have the money. Why not eat it? If we pay his whole way then I think someone would want him. Maybe we can get a future bullpen arm.

If someone wants to give us anything of value then trade him. We should be full sellers by the deadline this year. Everything must go. Ect.

Fredi telling the media that they are trying to trade Callaspo just seems like bad form. He tends to overshare on personnel matters, and it just makes it feel like he and the front office are not aligned on talking points.

If we end of trading Callaspo, there is surely a similar bad contract coming back. One name that comes to mind is Casey McGehee, but he seems to similar to CJ.

A couple years back he did a position v position analysis against the Phillies - and openly chose Phillies players over Braves. Literally what message board posters do - Fredi was doing in front of the cameras

Callaspo has played so badly that the team was desperate to be rid of him by Memorial Day? What a completely unpredictable development.

If he hadn't hit that home run, the team would not be trying to get rid of him. Couldn't stick with the program.

I must have missed this. Which writers?

This is a freaking classic

Remember, though. He's a Bobby disciple. IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH FREDI, YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH NO.6.

I really do hope that Freddi is just the sacrificial lamb for 2015 and then a real manager is brought in.

I am not a fan of Juan Uribe ... in the slightest. I actually think I'd rather keep Callaspo.
