Angels close to acquiring Kyle Kubitza from Braves

The tone of Hart's offseason has certainly changed around here. I'd say there is a lot to like from where we sit now, vs after the JHey deal...

The only real question I had was about the Markakis signing, but I keep going back to he was probably the best bat available not tied to a draft pick (desirable contact skills, obp, etc..) So yeah, its a head scratcher, but still not a terrible move.

I have no issues with trading Jason or Justin, I wish we got more return. I hate the Markakis signing. I wouldn't mind it at like 2/25, or even 2/30. But 4/44 is not one I like. I"m pretty sure Markakis will be worthless after year 2.

You have to think that a Gattis trade is still very possible this offseason to if he were traded for say Jake Thompson and something else from Texas then we'd Def have a top 5 farm system. It's gonna be interesting over the next couple of weeks to see how it all plays out. But I think Moncada is Def a big possibility.

Assuming we have scouted him as extensively as we have (EVERY report I've seen anywhere has consistently said we've had the biggest presence at every workout) and the fact that we were apparently in deep on Tomas (with no moves on the horizon that would clear B. J., Uggla, or Johnson's money) I still don't understand why you keep questioning it.

Tomas signed for $68.5 million and has MANY more unanswered questions than Moncada has. Moncada has been called a "franchise player" by several sources (J. J. Cooper from BA included). Assuming the organization at some point at least considered spending $150-ish million on another franchise player to pair with Freeman heading into the new park, $80 million is an absolute steal. If Heyward or Upton would've been willing to accept something with a slightly shorter term but higher AAV - 6/$150 million, you'd have $70 million remaining (after paying him that $80 million initially) to either go towards extending Moncada through his prime seasons (a la Freeman's deal) or spend on other assets while covering the same time period.

I agree. The Braves have created a lot of space on our payroll and have acquired several international signing slots. We are definitely gearing up to make some sort of move, and I think Moncada is who we really want.

I think it makes sense to move him as well. Not a long term building block, but the return could yield one.

Well then you weren't going to get him or really trying ot sign him. It is apparent the braves were.

And I'm fine with that. We could have signed Colby Rasmus instead for around 2/20 or 1/10. Colby shoudl be better in the short term as well. We added Markakis cause Jon Hart is obviously into Greek.

Moncada could give us a young stud 3b for a very long time at a very cheap annual salary. If the Braves are gonna spend I hope it's with him. He'd go to the minors for a season probably maybe 2. He'd would put our farm system at probably #1 or #2. And go along with the 2017 theme.

Look at it this way....what if Toronto or Baltimore flames out....guys like Encarncion, Batista, Wieters, Adam Jones could be available...and you know what we'd have the means to do it.

Wasn't there a board meltdown at Scout in reaction to Jurrjens for Adam Jones rumors?

I'd trade Gattis before his value is shot after this year, but i dont see us outbidding NY or Bos for Moncada.

I know I'm in the minority but I actually really like the offseason we've had because I was on board with a rebuild. The only questionable move to me was the Upton trade since the centerpiece just had Tommy John.

I love Gattis but I think we have to trade him right now when his value is the highest. But we better get position players back. I want Nomar Mazara back for him.

I still think he'll remain a Cardinal. Unless the Yankees come knocking.

I've thought since the day they couldn't work out a slightly smaller deal than the one Freeman agreed to that Heyward winds up a Yankee in 2016 - it's just too good a fit. He's one of the tiny number of free-agents that fits BOTH criteria they've been looking for - a "name" with star power, and far enough on the correct side of 30 that overpaying him SHOULDN'T be during his decline phase (assuming they don't give him something stupid like 10 years to keep the AAV down).

Not to mention that Hart & Company haven't just been stockpiling arms haphazardly - these guys should all have different ETAs, meaning the stream of young and inexpensive pitching should continue beyond 2017 (and NO ONE has to be rushed) so you can continue spending money on bats...

2015 - Banuelos
2016 - Jenkins, Hursh, Winkler
2017 - Sims, Fried (possibly), Fulenchek, Grosser
2018 - Sanchez, Cabrera, Caicedo, Ubiera, Torres, 2015 pick

I'd approach Wood and Miller's representatives about working out similar deals to Julio's during camp or early in the season. If you're successful, Minor, Hale, and eventually Wood and Miller become EXTREMELY attractive trade pieces.

I still don't like Adam Jones a ton, but he certainly would be better than Jurrjens.

I agree but teams werent going to trade a Walker/Bundy for a one-year rental.
