Arcia Extended

Bunch of swing and miss right now so hopefully he isn’t sacrificing one for the other. Either way it looks great now. Just hope it’s sustainable considering the whiff rate.

His swinging strike is up. but the reality is pitchers are throwing more pitches in the zone to him now. I don't know if it's over swinging, or if it's just the nature of his swing.

It’s such a small sample that it’s not worth making an extrapolated assessment. Just a note of concern if it continues.

Need two catchers though and I don’t think the braves were in love with Contreras behind the plate. Plus TDAs bat is important for us so having him in the DH is a benefit of getting Murphy.

Must not have believed in Lango either

Arcia's WAR is already 0.7 lolol

Numbers are always only intended to help inform a discussion. There is more than just a number and it was very clear that Arcia was WELL WORTH that contract and was another brilliant move by AA.

Hard to judge Langeliers in the middle of that tire fire in Oakland (I am pretty sure Beane only comes into the office twice a year to make sure payroll still has his direct deposit info correct).

But…

33% k rate (career)
5% BB rate (career)

And the defense (especially framing) has been reallllllllly bad.

Whew

And he'll only have to manage a .400+ BABIP to get there. He's started the season hot and lucky, the question is where he'll settle in offensively and defensively.

Thats why I took a haircut on his true pacing WAR.

MVP season upon us!!

what is the highest WAR season? I know I have seen a 10.. but not sure the highest.

Since 1900 Ruth has the highest single season fWAR at 14.7 in 1923. He also owns 2nd through 4th all in the 20's. That said I take those numbers with a grain of salt and like to look at these type of stats post integration. And Bonds holds that mark at 12.7 in 2002.

And if you want to look at any non steroid infused stats it would be Judge's year last season and Mantle in 56 at 11.5.

It could be argued with the amount of pitching and how they are used compared to the 50's that Judge's year last season was the best season ever for a player.

This is why I'm pretty much always willing to trade away catching prospects. Obviously some catching prospects like Rutschman are a different breed, but for every Rutschman you have 5-10 Joey Barts.
