Are the Braves as hopeless as it may seem?

Honestly, I just find it very hard to believe that any fan here doesn't get more pumped for a postseason win. If you don't then thats your deal. But, if you do then you should ask yourself why that is.

That's not the point. The point is the regular season is 162 games. That's a long time to be either sad or happy. The postseason is 10% of that.

Overall, which fan base has been happier in the last 20 years; the Marlins or Braves?

I never said that.

I watch baseball for 6 months out of every year. If you tell me there is a chance the team wins 85 games, I will enjoy a lot of that summer and have hope that if we can sneak into the playoffs, there is a chance.

If you tell me they may win 75, Im far more likely to not go out of my way to watch. Might as well just crop Simmons defensive highlights next year for entertainment.

In fairness to you though trying to watch 306 ball games a year for two teams as opposed to 162 for one is a lot to ask of a person.

Again, thats a huge difference. They have sucked and won 2 world series. You don't have to have it one extreme or the other. Braves are not going to suck for long but I believe that they will be in better shape to contend for a world series than the prior 4 year version of the Braves.

-How do you know that aren't going to suck for long?
-HOw do you know the team in 2017 will be in better shape to contend for a world series?

Braves have their scouting and developmental team that consistently built productive farm systems in charge.

I never said I know they will be in better shape to contend.

Of course I get more "pumped" for a postseason win. But in all reality, after game 7 of the world series, the entertainment of baseball is over, wheter my team wins or loses that game 7. I don't get a ring, I don't get a parade, I don't get a paycheck bonus if they win that game. My enjoyment is the entertainment of watching the game. But my life doesn't change one iota if they win or lose game 7. I was as entertained for as long as the baseball season would allow me to be.

My life doesn't change either I just think this idea that the postseason is equal to or even not as important is ridiculous.

I'm happy that I no longer need to watch or worry about that lifeless, pathetic thing called the Atlanta Braves of last season. It was time for a change, and a big change at that. That ship had sailed. That patch had been patched long enough, one more patch and eventually the leak would have been unstoppable and had consequences for a decade.

Time to get back to the Braves way. This season probably won't be fun, and 2016 may not be either, but I am eager and in anticipation with what the future holds with a pipeline flowing with talent, a lot of with high ceilings. Unlike some, I can see the big picture. It may not work out, but the way we we're constructed and operated before wasn't exactly yearning great results either.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again being a Braves fan and a "baseball" fan for many years, we have seen some dark times and some pathetic teams, some with worse records, some with considerably less talent, but last year was probably the most frustrated that I have ever been with a team, that team was done and had a fork stuck in it on Opening Day. So much yearning and loafing about the potential talent on the team, only to watch it without a heart. One of the most flawed logics and teams ever constructed in the Atlanta era. It just wasn't gonna work, and with the financial restraints, and so much money tied up into dead weight, there we're no patches that we're gonna make it work, either in the short term to yield potential postseason success, and more importantly long-term.

Right but you and other act like there is some magic formula to winning in the postseason. And that just isn't the case. The best formula for winning in the postseason is to win in the regular season - because that means:

A) You will be one of 10 teams with a chance to win in the postseason
B) You are a good team

What you and others are advocating is that we should tear down what helped make the Braves one of, if not the best teams in baseball for the previous 4 years, all for an opportunity to re-build to get back in the same exact position - which is a team good enough to make it to the postseason.

I think we should have taken the bird in hand, and tried to win once again. Instead, I'll have to be miserable for the next couple years all in hopes we find that postseason pixie dust

Just a difference in opinion. I thought the team as currently constructed had no chance in the postseason against superior pitching. Therefore, there was no point in my mind to try and compete in 2015 and watch Jason/Justin walk for nothing.

I do think certain teams perform better in the playoffs. You are right there are no magic formulas but a swing and miss team like the Braves has essentially no shot at winning. Now its time to flush the stench of the team for the past few years and rebuild anew with the collective wisdom of a group that consistently had the Braves on the cusp for 15 years.

The team was already patched a couple of years too long. We wasted cheap years of Heyward/Freeman on completely flawed teams. Its a real shame.

The Giants second starter was either Peavy or Hudson. And I think Vogelsong started a game?
