Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Bryce Harper with a 159 wRC thus far. It looks like his break out has finally happened.

Bryce Harper voted as the most overrated player in the majors this spring. Which doesn't square with fact he leads MLB in intentional walks.

"Players who I dreaded the most" mantle:

Mike Piazza (late 90's early 2000's)

David Wright (end of the streak)

Jimmy Rollins/Utley (during the dark years)

Dan Uggla (during the Jhey Renaissance era)

And it looks like it's a close race between Stanton and Harper for the next one to assume that spot.

Still early in this season, but is 22 with a 126 RC+ and considered overrated. Mike Trout ruins it for all young players.

Teams just won't pitch to him right now with Zimmerman not really hitting

Barry Bonds. Didn't he hit like 6 homers in 3 game series?

I remember that series in Atlanta. Mostly I'm just referring to players on division rivals whom I actively rooted against because we were in a pennant race against them.

So when 2017 comes and the Promised One returns and leads the Braves back to glory, Harper will be in the start of his prime which is terrifying. I hope the Yankees some how steal him from Washington.

I agree with that. To a degree Harper is overrated since he was hyped as the best young player of all time and has only topped out at 4.6 WAR which was his rookie season. That's not to say he hasn't been very good in his young career as he has. But he was hyped so hard (before his came up and as is currently is) that it's hard not to say he's overrated when his numbers don't translate to that amount of hype.

You can be good and still be overrated.

Wainwright leaving Milwaukee after hurting himself coming out of the batters box. He popped the ball up and left the box. Looks like an Achilles perhaps.

If this is true, not sure they trade for Hamels given what Amaro wants.

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal Sources: Expectation is that #STLCards’ Wainwright is done for season with Achilles injury. Has not yet undergone MRI.

Too bad Cahill and Stults have started off so crappy.

We could always trade them Miller and Jenkins for Heyward and Walden and fleece em right back!

For sure. He was being hyped as the MLB equivalent of Lebron. Supposedly ++ power.

While he's still very young and he has shown above average power, I would expect better power numbers for someone with that sort of label.

Where is that hate on Evan Gattis thread now?

Oakland intentionally loaded the bases and wanted to face Gattis. Evan made them pay.

I saw that, Gattis 9th inning double and 4 RBI's led Houston to their first ever sweep of the A's. Good for him, I didn't expect him to start off so slowly but he was clearly trying to do too much early on. Now he seems to be settling in so that will be good for both him and Houston. The Astros have had a nice start too so if both Gattis and Carter get going they could keep things going in the AL West.
