Around Baseball 2015 Edition

oh, really? that's the only difference?
Freeman hurt
Simmons hurt
KJ gone
Wood gone
Grilli gone
Johnson gone
Eury Perez, Daniel Castro and Adonis Garcia now playing frequently.
So yeah, for a while there when this offense was as good or better than last year's minus the Ks and shutouts, it wasn't as painful. And, as I've said I think twice now, the expectation factor is huge: last year was a big letdown.

^
"only KJ is gone."

Last season was abysmal for me. I had high hopes and we shat the bed.

I at least like to see new callups like Winkler, Man Ban, Viz, Jace, etc...

Especially the pitching prospects, I like to see how they handle themselves and the stuff they bring to the table.

It isn't as great as winning the world series or anything, but I like seeing the new guys and getting all warm and fuzzy that they could be special.

Well, we were talking about the offense - or at least I was.

Simmons has missed like 3 games. Freeman is hurt. Everything else is the same.

In fact, the "this offense will be more fun to watch cries" came before the Maybin trade.

I'd rather have a team with high expectations with a shot to win it all. It makes every game exciting and the whole season more fun.

I basically have stopped watching this season. I have it on as background noise.

Also, when Freeman came back the offense was still dreadful.

It's because the offense sucks. Losing KJ didn't take it from good to suck.

Sure, most would agree. I just like seeing Wisler in his debut, Man Bans breaking stuff, etc...

For most of those guys its the first time I have seen them. I find that very entertaining. I have not been watching either, but that's for completely separate reasons.

Yeah, me too. I'm still watching, and still enjoying it. It's baseball.

It's less frustrating than watching what I thought was a pretty good team absolutely eating **** down the stretch. It's just like "we were good until injuries and trades" that drives me a little bonkers. Again, we haven't been .500 +1 since June 1.

Agreed... I tune in for Wisler or starts or Olivera's debut.

They became significantly less fun after their 17-7 start. After that, they were 62-76.

And yes, the offense was insanely frustrating to watch. Our pitching was much better last year. The offense this year was right around the same, production-wise, to last year, without all the shutouts and Ks.

I don't see the big difference in strikeouts and waiting for the big homerun and having to get 4 hits in an inning to score a run. Which has been the case far too often this year.

And honestly what seems 'fun' and 'frustrating' mean nothing to me. I care about proudction. Scoring runs is fun. Not scoring runs is frustrating. How a team gets there doesn't matter to me. I would imagine to most people it doesn't matter either. I think this was just a mantra that those clamoring for less strikeouts and more contact embraced when we went away from that approach.

In the end nothing has changed. Our offense sucks.

The team is exciting and playing baseball the right way when it hits with RISP or bench guys get big pinch hits. When that isn't happening I still like watching because these guys have a lot of grit and never give up, which is refreshing to see.

Now I know why Justin was traded

yeah but we didn't have a shot to win it all last season. we stunk. and before we realized we stunk, we thought we had a chance. until we saw them play. and the offense was painful.

Yeah - those 96 wins from the year before with mainly the same group was not reflective at all.

We've been over this a hundred times.

You're in favor of the rebuild - but the rebuild isn't looking so hot. Our team is terrible and we don't have any impact prospects coming anytime soon. The ONLY thing that has been overwhelmingly positive was the Kimbrel trade, which I would have done whether we were re-tooling or re-building

I really disagree with this post. The rebuild is looking good. Did you expect them to be competitive this year... or even next. If anything, it is slightly ahead of schedule. Some good young players coming, and a few already here and outperforming expectations. It is a rebuild. Doesn't happen overnight.

The farm is looking very strong, and the Braves have salary space to take on some good players.

disagree.
and we'd be looking worse if we opted to try and compete this year. it would not have ended well.

and we had no shot to win it all last season. is that a debate now? did we actually have a shot? based on what? we won 79 games and were outscored rather heavily. we did not have a shot. and we wouldn't have had a shot this year based mostly on our pitching. but the offense wouldn't have been good, either. you see the year Justin is having? Gattis?

going all-in this year would've cost us big time.

The rebuild is not going well? By what reasonable measure?
