Around Baseball 2015 Edition

His OPS is over .800 now. It's quite clear that he's going to get a contract much larger than what any of us thought was possible heading into the year.

Now for some non-Heyward news (finally), the Texas Rangers are now in first place in the A.L. West. Who would have thunk that?

Rangers had a case for punting, but decided not to. Every year there is a team or two that projects to be not much better than .500, but gets sprinkled with some pixie dust and has a magical season.

Yeah, but they also had a good enough farm and guys like Fielder, Beltre, Choo that they gave big contracts to. If they had a depleted farm I bet they do things differently.

We also have guys on multi-year deals: Freeman, Simmons, Teheran, Markakis.

The Rangers do have a good farm system. But interestingly they have not gotten big contributions from rookies this year. Their top rookie in terms of WAR is a relief pitcher, Keone Kela. He is at 1.3 WAR. Delino DeShields, a rule 5 pickup, is at 1.0 WAR.

Right, but they have (had) a lot of pieces in their farm. If it were barren, I bet they make some trades.

If you're comparing our situation to ours, there were a lot of differences.

Higher fWAR than Arenado, a great defensive 3B with a .285 AVG and 39 dingers. Granted, he plays in Coors. BUT, he has a higher OPS away from Coors than Heyward does period, and has more homers away from Coors than at home (21 vs. 18).

Anyone that fails to vote Bryce Harper as MVP this year should lose their right to vote.

Harper .338/.467/.667 .471 wOBA, 203 wRC+ 9.1 WAR

Votto .311/.459/.549 .430 wOBA, 173 wRC+ 7.1 WAR

Kershaw 14-6 2.12 ERA, 7.4 WAR

I'll be honest, Harper has been absolutely incredible this year - but if only he wasn't a jackass and I could pull for him!

Luckily its all defense and he may get 15 million this year (HUGE OVERPAY!)

it's funny because your quotes on Heyward last year state how his WAR is over-inflated due to defense being overvalued. it's funny how quickly your opinion changes when a player is no longer a Brave.

it's also funny because i don't think anyone here thinks he will struggle to get $15MM, or that it would be an overpay.

Someone quote me so the pansy can see my post??
